Over the last eight years, the OpenActive data standard has allowed physical activity providers to publish information about opportunities, leading to over 10 million activities being published monthly. The latest update of the standard now allows organisations like community groups or clubs to publish an OpenActive feed using just a few properties. This will bring greater exposure across directories and allow healthcare professionals to signpost the opportunities to their patients. Find out more about the update and the showcase campaign we will be running in April to feature early adopter NGBs 👉 https://lnkd.in/eshSAuYd #OpenData #OpenActive

OpenActive is a community-led initiative to get more people active using open data
About us
Our aim is to make it as easy to find and book a tennis court as it is to book a hotel room. We are a community-led initiative for the sport and physical activity sector. Publishing open data about where, when and what activities take place can make it easier for people to find and book activities online. OpenActive develops a standard format to publish and use data about activities. - - - - - - - - OpenActive is a community-led initiative, working across the sport and physical activity sector, funded by Sport England and stewarded by the Open Data Institute (ODI). Can you help to make volunteering opportunities easier to find and share? The ODI is working with Doit and TeamKinetic, supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, to develop an open data standard for volunteering. Join us for a two-day hackathon bringing together volunteer platforms, developers, and community organisations to test the first draft of the standard and explore how open data can connect more people with opportunities to help. Participants will work on practical challenges, test data flows between systems, and discuss what’s needed to make this approach work across the sector. Sign up now! When: 3–4 December 2025 Where: In person, Mary Ward House, Tavistock Place, London WC1H 9SN https://lnkd.in/etXf3m3R https://theodi.org/ https://www.doit.life/ https://teamkinetic.co.uk/

OpenActive is exploring proposals for a shared, open specification for club-level data to help more people find local sports clubs and regular activity providers - even when those clubs don’t publish detailed or bookable sessions. This is about making it easier for national tools, platforms, and local services to surface consistent, up-to-date information about sports clubs and community groups, and supporting a broader range of organisations to get involved in open data. Join us online on Wednesday 28 May from 1pm to 2pm to explore: - A new Club Finder specification - How it fits into the OpenActive model - Practical routes to implementation The meeting is open to everyone so come along and join the discussion, we’d love your input. Join us at the next OpenActive Adoption and Engagement Forum on Wednesday 30 April from 1pm to 2pm. We're excited to have Julian Pratt from Yorkshire Sport Foundation and Dave Barter from Nautoguide Ltd. who will be talking about the launch of a new activity directory for South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. They'll be telling us about the AI powered tools developed by Dave, and how they have helped to update Yorkshire Sport Foundation's 10-year-old database and increase the number of listings from 3,500 to over 7,000. OpenActive's community meetings are free for anyone to attend, so come along and join the discussion on what lessons we can learn and what comes next.
