MindNode Returns to Your Wrist – MindNode 2026.1

Our first update of the year brings MindNode back to Apple Watch, along with improvements to folding, notes, and document management.

MindNode on Apple Watch

MindNode is returning to Apple Watch. Like in MindNode Classic, you can view your recent documents directly on your wrist as an outline and quickly glance at all open tasks in a document.

And this is only the beginning. The new Apple Watch app lets you complete tasks right on your wrist, edit node titles, append notes, change the hierarchy, and even delete nodes. You can also create a brand-new document directly on Apple Watch.

Using editing in MindNode for Apple Watch requires the paired iPhone to be nearby. A truly standalone version is something we may explore in the future.

Folding That Works the Way You Think

Working with large documents just got more fluid. We’ve added new actions and keyboard shortcuts for unfolding nodes, including options like “Show 3 Levels.” This makes it easier to explore complex structures without losing context — perfect for presentations, reviews, or deep dives into big ideas.

MindNode Classic 2023.8

This week, we released MindNode Classic 2023.8, bringing the Liquid Glass design to our classic app. We’ve carefully refreshed the interface to ensure it feels right at home with the new design and added several fixes for compatibility with this year’s Apple OS 26 updates. The sticker picker received a complete UI overhaul, and our updated Liquid Glass app icon looks gorgeous on OS 26.

A priority for us when creating this update was to continue supporting older operating systems.
MindNode Classic still runs on iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or later and macOS 13.0 or later, ensuring users on older devices can continue to enjoy a smooth, reliable experience.

With this release, MindNode Classic now rests on a stable foundation for the future. While our focus is shifting toward MindNode (Next), we’ll continue to address any serious issues and crashes. If you run into any problems, please don’t hesitate to reach out; our support team is always happy to help.

A Fresh Look & AI Brainstorming — MindNode 2025.6

With MindNode 2025.6, we're bringing Apple's new design language, playful details, and deep Apple Intelligence integration to your brainstorming sessions. These updates come to Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro — making MindNode feel more fluid, capable, and delightful than ever.

Liquid Glass

With its 2026 operating system updates, Apple is introducing a new design language called Liquid Glass. MindNode fully embraces this change with a refreshed interface that feels light, fluid, and modern across Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

We've made several noticeable refinements across the app: a more context-aware Inspector on Mac, improved labels in the sidebar, a more polished Sticker Picker, and an update App Icon.

Dark, light and glass variants of the new MindNode App Icon.

Apple took iPadOS a big step forward this year by introducing true windowing and a full-featured menu bar. MindNode is ready — it runs seamlessly in a window and takes full advantage of the new multitasking system. Speaking of menus, both on Mac and iPad, the menus now features icons, making navigation faster and more visual.

Details matter, and you'll notice playful new animations, especially in our AI-powered brainstorming and summarizing features. On iPhone, transitions like creating a new theme or moving a document into a folder now feel smoother and more natural.

And to make navigating your ideas even easier, the Outline search bar on iOS has moved to the bottom of the screen, putting it right where your thumb is.

Enhance Your Productivity with Bear and MindNode

In a world where “one-size-fits-all” apps are everywhere, we believe in something different: using the best tool for the job. Bear, the note-taking app, and our mind-mapping app, each bring unique strengths to the table. With a workflow tailored to you, these two apps can help you accomplish more with greater efficiency. But let’s start at the beginning:

What is Bear?

Bear UI

Bear is a simple yet powerful Markdown notes app. It offers quick tagging, easy editing, and flexible export options—perfect for capturing, writing, and organizing notes while keeping them private with encryption.

Why Use Bear and MindNode Together?

MindNode and Bear

Supreme Usability and Standard Formats: Both apps are native apps and therefore provide the best usability possible. We also both support the widely used Markdown text format, which can be used for import and export. This way, all the formatting is kept from one app to the other.
Enhanced Focus and Clarity: MindNode helps you visualize the big picture on an infinite canvas, while Bear allows you to refine those ideas' details in a clean, text-based format. Together, they enable you to be creative at the macro as well as the micro level, so nothing gets overlooked from concept to completion.
Work Across Devices: Both apps are available on iOS and macOS and offer cross-device syncing, allowing you to access your projects wherever and whenever you are, no matter which device you use.

How to Use Bear and MindNode Together

Whether you are new to Bear, or MindNode, or a beginner for both apps, here are 3 ways to make the most of this unique couple.

Brainstorm in MindNode, Finish in Bear

Kick off your project or idea generation in MindNode, then seamlessly transfer your mind map to Bear using Markdown exports. This allows you to refine and expand on your thoughts in a structured, text-focused space.
When imported, the node hierarchy converts into headings in Bear, and all tasks, links, tags, and notes are preserved. This makes it easy to continue building on your outline until your project is fully developed.
Example: If you’re a student working on a thesis, you can map out your key points in MindNode, then move to Bear for in-depth writing and analysis.

Thesis Map

To streamline the process, we’ve created a Mac Shortcut that imports your MindNode Markdown file directly into Bear and opens the note—saving time and clicks. Try it out!

Easily Reference Bear Notes in MindNode

If MindNode is your primary workspace, but you need quick access to notes in Bear, you can use x-callback-url in links to connect the two. The /open note action/open note makes referencing Bear notes effortless, keeping all your key details just a click away.
Example: Planning a trip? Use MindNode to outline your itinerary and link to Bear notes containing important details like travel confirmations, sightseeing info, or packing lists. With MindNode as your roadmap and Bear as your travel guide, you’re set for a smooth adventure.

Travel Plan Mind Map
Packing List in Bear

Turn Bear Notes into Mind Maps for a Visual Overview

While Bear’s Table of Contents helps navigate long notes, sometimes a visual layout offers better clarity. Export your Bear notes in Markdown and import them into MindNode for a structured, big-picture view of your content.
Example: A marketing executive finalizing a campaign draft in Bear can bring it into MindNode to structure a presentation outline, making it easier to organize ideas visually before pitching. With this Mac Shortcut you can convert Bear Notes into mind maps within seconds — have fun.

MindNode + Bear: A Perfect Pair

Using MindNode and Bear together combines the best of both worlds—visual mind mapping for organization and a distraction-free space for deep writing. Try integrating them into your workflow and discover how they complement each other!

Personal Themes, Reminders & Image Resizing - MindNode 2025.5

Further reducing the feature gap to MindNode Classic, Personal Themes, Sync with Reminders, and Image Resizing are now available in MindNode Next.

Personal Themes

Following the release of Dynamic Themes in our previous major update, we are delighted to introduce Personal Themes to MindNode Next. You can now extract a theme based on the current document. To create a new theme, select “Create Theme” from the canvas sidebar and MindNode will generate a new theme. Our extraction code has been significantly enhanced, enabling the creation of hierarchical themes and automatically generating a dynamic variant.

For optimal results, we recommend creating a document with a single main node, six attached sub nodes, and a single connection. When extracting a theme from a document that has different styles for each level, MindNode will also use this information.

To help you get started, we created two sample documents. Import them into MindNode, style them to your liking and extract a new theme from them.

Sample Document for Hierarchical Themes

In an upcoming MindNode Classic release we will also add the ability to extract hierarchical themes.

Sync with Reminders

We are excited to announce the return of syncing tasks with Apple Reminders. You can find this new behavior by selecting the task icon in the toolbar. Once enabled, MindNode will create a new list in Apple Reminders and maintain the synchronization of your tasks' completion status. You can complete your tasks in Reminders, and they will also appear as completed in MindNode.

MindNode Next goes way beyond the capabilities of previous versions by also syncing new tasks to Reminders. When you add a new task in MindNode, it will be automatically created in Reminders.

Later this summer we will also support the reverse process. When you add a task to a list synced with MindNode, it will be picked up and added to a new “Task Inbox” main node within your document.

Update: We ran into an issue during final testing of the two-way syncing feature. Unfortunately our attempts to finding a fix weren't successful and we are putting this on hold for now.

Resize Images

Our third major returning feature is the ability to resize images and text. To resize image or text content, tap on a node, then tap it again to select the content. Use the resize handles to resize the selected image or text. Instead of just showing the resize handles, we’ve also updated the selection indicator to make it easier to see what part is selected. We’ll also bring this interaction refinement to MindNode Classic in a future update.

In this update, we are also adding RTF import, improved link editing in Outline, and enhanced zooming to original size.

A New Era of Automation in MindNode

Shortcuts is a powerful app from Apple that allows you to create workflows, extend apps, and combine different apps to perform unique tasks. MindNode has had basic support for Shortcuts for a long time; however, those actions were limited to basic document management tasks, including importing and exporting. With the new architecture of MindNode Next, we can take it even further and provide direct actions to interact with your ideas.

Over the last several MindNode Next releases, we have been gradually extending this functionality in collaboration with Matthew Cassinelli, an expert in App Intents, Shortcuts, and the emerging world of Apple Intelligence. Matthew provided invaluable feedback on our new automation features and created a fantastic set of example workflows to showcase what’s possible.

Our sample Shortcuts are grouped into four different categories:

Starter Shortcuts

They are a great starting point for those new to Shortcuts. Use them to get a feeling for the app and adapt them to your own needs. There are shortcuts to use dictation to starte a new document or quickly create a new document.

Intermediate Shortcuts

In this category are Shortcuts that allow you to work with documents. Use shortcuts to quickly export the last opened document to Markdown or extract all text from an image to convert it to a mind map.

Advanced Shortcuts

Shortcuts in this section are a bit more complex and work with the contents of your documents. It contains shortcuts to update the style of your nodes, check the status of your tasks or add the current website to a website when doing research.

Friends of MindNode

Take MindNode even further and combine it with other apps like ChatGPT, Ulysses, Bear, Things, or OmniFocus.

You can find an overview of our shortcuts actions directly in the Shortcuts app and our updated user guide. They will work on Mac, iPhone, iPad and, Apple Vision Pro.

Our new Shortcuts integration makes it even easier to combine MindNode into your productivity workflow. We also laid the groundwork for the integration of MindNode with Apple Intelligence - we expect to hear more about it from Apple next week at its annual developer conference.

Give our sample Shortcuts a try, and let us know what workflows you created!

Organize, Customize, and Create with More Flexibility Than Ever - MindNode 2025.4

From automatically adapting themes, a smarter layout engine, to the long-awaited folder support, MindNode Next 2025.4 brings powerful improvements designed to fit your flow without getting in your way.

Dynamic Themes

Let your document blend seamlessly with your system’s appearance. With Dynamic Themes, your documents automatically adapt to light and dark mode. So when your system switches to dark mode in the evening, your documents will transition as well. We updated all of our built-in themes to support this new dynamic behavior.

Flexible Layout

Manual layout was a beloved feature in MindNode Classic, and we are now bringing it back in a majorly revised form. Instead of having to choose between manual and automatic layout, our improved automatic layout engine can handle both at the same time: drag a node anywhere on the canvas to override its automatic position and move it back near its parent to re-enable automatic layout. Automatic positioning is only overridden for the current node; all of its sub-nodes will continue to use automatic layout.

We also got you covered if you want more freedom in positioning your nodes. On devices with a keyboard, hold the ⌥ (Option) key, and on touch devices, rest a finger on the canvas when dragging a node with another finger. This will prevent the node from snapping back to its automatic position.

Folders

Since shipping MindNode Next this has been at the top of your feature wishlist: Folders. You can now group your documents however you like — by project, client, subject, or anything else. Just create a new folder in the sidebar and drag any document into it. As documents, folders are available on all your devices and are always kept in sync.

MindNode Next File Format

A small but important change is coming to our native MindNode file format. In addition to supporting MindNode Classic documents, you can now export MindNode Next documents. The new file format ensures improved compatibility when sharing documents with other MindNode Next users and supports new features. Our Backup features in MindNode’s settings will now export both Classic and Next documents.

Other Improvements

By pressing command () and clicking the folding indicator you can now fold or unfold the clicked node plus all its sibling nodes.

Improved reliability and fixed various bugs related to node dragging.

Fixed a crash on iPhone Pro Max when rotating to landscape while viewing an open document.

Fixed a pointer interaction glitch when dragging knobs on iOS.

MindNode Next 2025.4 is now available for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro on the App Store. As always, we’d love to hear what you think.

Visual Thinking in Motion: Seyoung’s inspiring Journey with MindNode.

Hi Seyoung! Could you please introduce yourself?

I'm a passionate and curious person, both personally and professionally. Personally, I've always loved storytelling through videography, photography, and self-publishing. Since 2020, I've worked in tech startups, starting as an engineer, transitioning into product management, and now serving as Director of Customer Success at Basemark, an AR software company.

I've been a visual thinker since I was young. I speak four languages: Korean (my mother tongue), English, Japanese, and Finnish. I learned the three foreign languages by visually associating concepts with positions on notebook pages. For example, I’d think “line 4 on page 5,” and my brain would draw the content for me. That’s why mind mapping has always felt so natural to me.

I’ve grown both personally and professionally through MindNode over the past decade. It’s become an essential part of how I think, plan, and build. I deeply appreciate the team behind it and want to see MindNode thrive for many years to come — it truly plays a meaningful role in my life.

When and how did you discover mind mapping?

I was first introduced to mind mapping in elementary school, when I was about 8 or 9. But it never really clicked with pen and paper — it felt too slow. That changed in 2015 when the App Store recommended MindNode. I gave it a try while writing my bachelor’s thesis, and I’ve been using it daily ever since.

And how have you used it?

Professional:

Prioritization

Whiteboarding

Writing & Presentations – structuring thoughts before writing or presenting

Framework building – defining and organizing reusable templates for different types of work

Personal:

Scheduling – daily, weekly, and long-term goals

Ideation & Planning – videography, photography, and book projects

Meditation – reflecting on my goals, progress, and what truly motivates me

Understanding & Summarizing – breaking down books, technical papers, or code repositories

How has it helped you, personally or professionally?

Simplicity & Speed

I think non-linearly and constantly jump between ideas across domains. MindNode matches my mental speed. It lets me stay in flow, connect dots, and turn abstract ideas into concrete plans — fast.

That speed is crucial because I work in a startup with offices across three continents. It's also essential for personal projects, where no one sets the deadline but me. With MindNode, I can break big goals into small, motivating wins and adjust as I go.

Clarity through Introspection

MindNode helps me understand myself and what I truly want. I use it every morning to review my priorities — both personal and professional. This keeps me focused, organized, and intentional with my time.

Focus on What Matters

MindNode helps me deconstruct problems and cut away the noise. I can clearly see what doesn’t matter and double down on what does. That clarity helps me hit the right goals fast.

Seyoung captures insights from his favorite books with MindNode — turning reading into an active, visual experience.

Which device do you like to use MindNode on, and why?

I mainly use my MacBook Pro (for work) and MacBook Air (personal), connected to a 27-inch external display. The large screen and physical keyboard help me work quickly. When I’m away from my Macs, I use an iPhone 11. When switching between devices, I’m careful to avoid sync issues.

Do you have any MindNode features that you particularly enjoy?

A small but essential set of features — the simplicity is a feature in itself. The MindNode team clearly understands what it takes to get into flow.

Image attachment — a picture is worth a thousand words!

Fold/unfold

Copy-paste that maintains indentation — super handy for switching between MindNode and other text editors like Confluence

Native & local — MindNode isn’t bloated or cloud-dependent, so it stays lightning fast. I often work offline while traveling, and this makes a big difference.

To keep things tidy and focused, Seyoung uses the fold feature — it helps him navigate even the most complex mind maps with ease.

What makes your creativity spark?

Writing helps me clarify my thoughts. Reading books lets me experience new perspectives. Cinema teaches me storytelling, and behind-the-scenes documentaries show how teams collaborate in depth. I love listening to interviews with industry leaders on YouTube and podcasts. And last but not least, I enjoy talking with my nerdy friends, who are always working on cool hobby projects. They introduce me to new technologies and domains — and give feedback on my projects too.

Reading opens up new perspectives for Seyoung — and his detailed mind map show just how much he explores.

Seyoung has made his MindMap with books and notes available to us. It can be downloaded here.

Document Import and Search Improvements – MindNode 2025.3

We're excited to introduce MindNode 2025.3, packed with new features and enhancements designed to simplify managing your documents. This update focuses on 4 major improvements: enhanced document import, expanded support for FreeMind and Xmind, improved document management, and a more powerful document search.

Unified Document Import

Importing your existing mind maps into MindNode is now easier than ever. We've introduced a unified workflow that supports importing MindNode Classic documents alongside all other supported file formats. This streamlines the transition to MindNode Next. To import documents, just drag them onto the app icon or use the new import toolbar item.

Screenshot of completed image export.

Improved Document Management

Managing your documents just got a whole lot easier. Together with the above-mentioned improved document import workflow, we've introduced a dedicated list of recently imported documents. Additionally, shared documents are now categorized into a" Shared by Me" and a" Shared with Me" section, making it easier to find and organize your collaboration documents. We also added a button and context menu to empty the trash.

Screenshot of updated Shared section with Shared by Me and Shared with Me.

Expanded FreeMind & Xmind Support

We're extending our compatibility by adding support for FreeMind and Xmind documents. Now, you can import FreeMind and Xmind files directly into MindNode and even export your mind maps as FreeMind documents. This enhancement allows for greater flexibility and interoperability between different mind-mapping tools.

Enhanced Document Search

Finding the right document is now faster and more intuitive. The updated search feature now highlights where your search term appears—whether in the document title or content—so you can quickly locate what you need. Plus, when you open a document from search results, you can continue searching inside it, ensuring a seamless search experience.

Screenshot of searching for the term "Mind".

Other Improvements

In addition to these major updates, we've included several refinements to enhance your workflow:

Tags: The outline view now displays tag indicators for better organization.

Connections: New context menus with "Show Start/End Node" actions.

Style: Nodes retain their style when re-attached while holding the command key ⌘.

Themes: Allow to set a default theme for new documents.

Preference: Syncs several preferences across devices.

Links: Improved support for pasting links during title editing.

Node Well: Improved behavior when creating and re-attaching nodes.

We hope these updates help you stay focused and organized. You can find all the changes and fixes in our release notes. And if you want to help us, you can now join the public beta to provide feedback on the upcoming layout positioning improvements and folder support.

<![CDATA[Automatic Layout with a Personal Touch]]> https://www.mindnode.com/blog/automatic-layout-with-a-personal-touch migrated-Z-FEDREAAC4Azlfs Mon, 24 Mar 2025 00:00:00 GMT Automatic Layout with a Personal Touch

Automatic Layout with a Personal Touch

Just a few days ago, MindNode celebrated its 17th anniversary. One of the core features of the initial release was Manual Layout. Now, 17 years later, we are replacing it—and we’d love to hear your feedback.

The Beginnings

MindNode was born from my desire to bring the fluidity of paper mind maps to the Mac. When I create a mind map on paper, I start with a central idea and draw lines to connect related thoughts freely. In MindNode, I implemented this by allowing users to drag the “node well” to an open space on the digital canvas, where it would remain unless manually repositioned. Manual Layout was the foundation of MindNode, and for many months, it was the only available layout option.

After receiving numerous user requests, I reluctantly introduced Automatic Layout, which I named “Smart Layout.” Over time, Smart Layout became the default, and when we added the new Compact Layout, we restricted it to Smart Layout and never extended it to Manual Layout.

A New Beginning

MindNode Next has given us the opportunity to rethink Manual Layout. We not only want to address some of its shortcomings but also extend manual positioning to all layouts.

Instead of having a separate manual mode, MindNode Next allows you to move any node freely while keeping its relative position to its parent. The key difference from the classic version is that all other nodes will continue to follow automatic layout rules. This ensures that adding and repositioning nodes results in a more consistent and predictable structure.

You trigger the new behavior by simply starting to drag a node. When the node has reached a certain distance from its parent, a new indicator will appear on the branch, letting you know that the node will no longer snap back to its original position. You can also override this default behavior by simply holding the Option key on your keyboard (Mac or iPad only).

During dragging a node, a shadow will indicate where the node would snap to:

Position any nodes freely, while retaining automatic layout for all nodes:

We Want Your Feedback

Manual Layout offered great flexibility, and while we have aimed to preserve that, some of your specific use cases may not be fully covered in this new approach. If you are a heavy Manual Layout user and would like to share your feedback before we finalize this update.

Please join our public beta and send us your feedback to [email protected].join our public beta[email protected]

We appreciate your input as we evolve MindNode to make it even more intuitive and powerful. Based on feedback from our users, we hope to ship the layout improvements together with folder support and dynamic themes at the end of April as part of our 2025.4 release.

Focus Mode, iThoughts, OPML - MindNode 2025.2

I'm excited to share that our second MindNode Next feature update of the year is now available. 2025.2 brings back Focus Mode, import of the iThoughts file format, OPML import & export, and a menu for recent documents.

Focus Mode

Our beloved Focus Mode from MindNode Classic is now also available in MindNode Next. Focus Mode lets you concentrate on specific sections of your mind map by dimming out unrelated areas. At the same time, Focus Mode makes it easy to shift focus if necessary: When zoomed in, unfocused branches are hardly visible, but when you zoom out, they change their appearance slightly to make it easy to change focus to another part of your document.

For an even cleaner workspace, MindNode Next now allows you to optionally hide the toolbar, ensuring your ideas remain front and center.

Seamless iThoughts Import

iThoughts was another popular mind-mapping application, but unfortunately, the original developers stopped working on it a year ago. MindNode Classic had support for importing its files for some time, and we received many more requests to add it to MindNode Next than for any other file format. We are now bringing it to MindNode Next in a greatly enhanced way. The importer in MindNode Next brings over many more attributes from iThoughts documents, so migrating from iThoughts to MindNode is much smoother than before. If you have iThoughts documents, we highly recommend importing them into MindNode Next instead of Classic.

Revived Classic Features

We are continuing the trend of bringing back beloved functionality from MindNode Classic. In addition to Focus Mode, this update also brings:

OPML Import and Export: Many outliners use the OPML file format to exchange data. Using OPML, you can import data from other outlines or transfer data from MindNode to an outliner of your choice.

Basic Printing Support: You can print your mind maps directly from the app. This is a first step, and we plan to enhance printing support throughout the year.

Recent Documents: You can easily access your most recent documents from the Main Menu, Dock Icon, or App icon.

MindNode 2025.2 also greatly enhances performance when opening documents and fixes several bugs and crashes. You can find all the details in our release notes. You can find all the details in our release notes.

We are quickly closing the gap between MindNode Next and MindNode Classic. Check our Roadmap, give MindNode Next a try, and let us know what we should focus on next.

myMindNode Web Service Retirement

Update: myMindNode is now retired and we deleted all data.

After much consideration, we have decided to retire the "myMindNode web service" on March 28th, 2025. The "myMindNode web service" was a feature to share documents on the web. This retirement has no influence on MindNode Classic, MindNode Next, MindNode Account, or syncing your documents between your devices. Only the myMindNode feature will become unavailable.

The "myMindNode web service" launched in 2013, and was still marked as beta to this day. Unfortunately, the web service never found a large audience and we stopped active development back in 2017. Starting with MindNode 7 in early 2020 we no longer provided sign-ups for new users. In the past 5 years, we have kept updating the backend with security updates, but with an upcoming update on our web host, keeping the web service running is no longer feasible.

Timeline

January 2020: Stopped accepting new signups.

September 2024: Uploading of new documents stopped working.

March 28th, 2025: The myMindNode web service will stop working.

April 15th, 2025: We will securely delete all myMindNode data.

Going Forward

We understand that changes like this can be disruptive, and we deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support. While not a direct replacement, we added exporting to the SVG file format in MindNode Next. SVG will make it easier to display MindNode documents on the web, and I hope you will find this helpful. Apple Intelligence and Classic Features

MindNode Next for iOS and macOS has been out for four weeks now, and we've received a lot of valuable feedback from you.

While most reactions were positive and excited about the future of MindNode, there were some understandable concerns. We are taking all of your feedback at heart and adapting our roadmap based on what we are hearing from you. Our main focus in the coming weeks will be improving document management and bridging the gap between MindNode Classic and MindNode Next. We are also sharing our roadmap for Classic feature adoption.

Since the initial release, we have been very busy and already released two major updates with new features, enhancements, and the return of some beloved Classic features.

MindNode Next 2024.4

In our first feature update we brought back importing and exporting of Plain Text and Markdown documents. We also added a search scope bar in the document picker and improved copy and paste for connection titles. Check out our detailed release notes for all changes.

MindNode Next 2024.5

We launched our second feature update last week and with this release we shipped our first Apple Intelligence features.

Image Playground

In the media popover, you can now find an entry for creating images using Apple's Image Playground (available on supported platforms). When you launch the Image Playground, MindNode will provide it with the current title, note, and image as a starting point for creating a new image. You can add additional descriptions and then bring the image back into MindNode. We've also brought the Image Playground to MindNode Classic in MindNode Classic 2023.5.

Ask Siri

Our second Apple Intelligence feature is the integration with Siri. With MindNode open, you can (only on supported platforms) ask Siri to e.g. summarize the contents of your document using ChatGPT.

Outline Inspector

Optimized specifically for the outline view, our new inspector enhances clarity and focus on attributes relevant only in this mode.

Revived Classic Feature

We are also continuing to bring back beloved Classic features. This update introduces the ability to copy the entire mind map or the current selection as an image to the pasteboard. On iOS, we also add support for taking photos using the Camera app.

These updates are just the beginning of our journey with MindNode Next. Your feedback drives our roadmap, and we're already hard at work on the next set of updates. Let us know what you think—your input shapes the future of MindNode Next.

We wish you relaxing holidays with your family and a creative start into the new year!

MindNode Next for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Welcome to MindNode Next, now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!
Earlier this year, we launched MindNode Next for Apple Vision Pro. We're thrilled to announce that it's now also available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With MindNode Next, you can effortlessly create and organize mind maps and outlines on all your devices. Invite your colleagues to collaborate and expand upon your next big idea.

MindNode Next is a brand-new app on the App Store. You can use it alongside MindNode Classic (iOS and macOS), and it's now part of your existing MindNode Plus subscription. Learn more about MindNode Classic in my recent blog post. And download MindNode Next now from the App Store.

A New App

Since MindNode Next introduces a new way to manage documents and has a slightly different feature set than MindNode Classic, we are releasing it as a new app. This ensures you can switch to the new version at your own pace and convenience. We highly value your productivity, so we want to ensure we never get into your way.

Document Management

In MindNode Next, documents are managed directly by the app and no longer in the Finder or Files app. This change enables several new features, including seamless sync, live collaboration, powerful new App Intents for Shortcuts, and stable linking to MindNode documents. We also have several other exciting new features on our roadmap that will build on this new foundation.

Document Syncing

With MindNode Next all your documents also reside on iCloud (CloudKit). Our custom-built syncing engine ensures that changes are consistently updated across all your devices. Even when you add content on (multiple) offline devices, MindNode Next can automatically bring all your changes together.

Live Collaboration (Beta)

One of our most requested features for the past decade has been the ability to collaborate with others on mind maps. In MindNode Next, you can now invite others to work with you on your documents. We're also launching a beta version of our new "Live Collaboration" feature. This feature allows you to see who else is currently online, view the content they've selected, and observe their changes in real time.

Our Live Collaboration is fully end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that all information transmitted through this service remains private. Our service doesn't even store any data, it just passes along the encrypted messages to your peers.

Mind Mapping & Outlining

MindNode Next offers a comprehensive set of mind mapping and outlining tools, empowering you to organize your thoughts and ideas more effectively. Whether you create mind maps, outline projects, or brainstorm ideas, MindNode Next has got you covered. MindNode Next, at its core, shares many similarities with MindNode Classic. The functionalities of creating, editing, reordering, and folding nodes are the same. We've even ensured that the enhancements we've made in MindNode Next are also brought over into MindNode Classic.
However, there are a few notable differences in how certain features operate. For instance, styling is now built on a new model that simplifies attribute inheritance in collaborative environments. Additionally, the style inspector is now conveniently accessible directly on the canvas. Visual Tags have also undergone a significant update in their handling and management.

Pro-Features

MindNode Next is introducing pro-level features to MindNode. In the Shortcuts app, you now have access to completely redesigned App Intents. They enable you to query all MindNode documents and automate changes to your content. This capability allows you to construct complex workflows, such as finding all nodes with an open task and highlight them visually.
Another exciting feature is the introduction of a new export type to MindNode: SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). You can now embed MindNode documents into websites or import them into graphic applications like Sketch or Figma.

Compatibility with MindNode Classic

MindNode Next supports exporting and importing documents from MindNode Classic. All features are imported, except for Manual Layout, which is currently unavailable. Consequently, imported documents are migrated to Smart Layout until we bring this feature to MindNode Next.
Once you imported a document into MindNode Next, it resides within MindNode Next as a separate document. Besides importing and exporting, you also got the option to copy-and-paste nodes from MindNode Next to MindNode Classic and back.

Pricing and Availability

MindNode Next is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. It's part of your existing MindNode Plus subscription, allowing you to use MindNode Classic and MindNode Next with just one subscription. To ensure your subscription is accessible on all your devices, login with the same Apple Account on all your devices. If you use a different Apple Account for the App Store and iCloud, sign up for a MindNode Account (formerly known as "MindNode ID") directly in the app to unlock your subscription.

If you're not already a subscriber of MindNode Plus, MindNode Next also includes a free editor. With this version, you can access basic mind mapping features, such as creating, rearranging, and folding nodes, and joining shared documents.

The development of MindNode Next was a significant undertaking for us. I want to express my gratitude to the entire team for their unwavering passion in driving the project forward. I also would like to thank all of our users. I understand that we released fewer updates than usual in the past year and I hope that this release, along with the many exciting new features that are coming, was worth the wait. Thank you!
