Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil is now out on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. We’ve also launched Road to Eden on Nintendo Switch, which is our first Switch release ever.

It’s been great fun seeing all the positive reactions to the new content in the expansion. We’ve gathered up some of the press reactions to both the Switch version and Seed of Evil, so you can see what the games press has said about the game and the expansion.

Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil

Windows Central – This expansion makes a great game even better

Windows Central slapped Seed of Evil with a Recommended badge and a 4.5/5 , saying the expansion “offers a plethora of fun new content to enjoy that any fan of Mutant Year Zero will love”:

If you enjoyed the base game, than you’d be crazy not to buy this expansion. It takes everything that Mutant Year Zero does so well and expands upon it tremendously.

Brendan Lowry, Windowscentral.com

IGN – Seed of Evil retains the nail-biting, tough-as-nails tactical experience

Seed of Evil got an 8/10 from IGN’s Mike Epstein, who called it “an expansion in its simplest, most direct form: there’s simply more of it”:

Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil is more Mutant Year Zero, plain and simple. Though its attempts to evolve the mechanics and systems aren’t particularly successful (with the exception of your new fire-breathing moose companion), planning and plowing through enemies remains satisfying.

Mike Epstein, IGN.com

Entertainium – A good excuse to jump back into Mutant Year Zero

Eduardo Reboucas from Entertainium found himself enamored by Seed of Evil and the new content:

Funcom and The Bearded Ladies struck gold with Mutant Year Zero, and it’s fantastic to have another reason to jump back in thanks to Seed of Evil […] If you enjoyed the base game as much as I did, you’ve probably been biting at the chance to keep playing, and Seed of Evil more than satisfies that itch.

Eduardo Reboucas, Entertainium

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden on Switch

Nintendo Life – Duck and cover

While critical of the game’s visual, Nintendo Life gave Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden on Nintendo Switch an 8/10, calling it a great addition to the genre:

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is one of the best additions to the tactical RPG genre years; a well-written and rewarding experience that combines the creative use of stealth found in the legacy of its ex-Hitman developers with a world that’s full of interesting characters and ideas. Almost every game in this genre lives in the shadow of XCOM, but Mutant offers enough new ideas to set itself apart.

Dom Reseigh-Lincoln, Nintendolife.com

Metro – Very a-moose-ing

UK web magazine Metro gave Road to Eden on the Switch another 8/10, saying that Seed of Evil adds more content to an already great game:

More than just XCOM with talking animals, this inventive strategy game has plenty of new ideas of its own

We have officially launched the first expansion to the tactical adventure game Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden! This expansion, titled Seed of Evil, continues where the original story left off in the adventures of mutant Stalkers Dux, Bormin, Selma, Magnus and Farrow.

After the end of Road to Eden, a new threat arises. Gigantic crimson vines are wrapping around the scaffolding and ramshackle buildings of the Zone’s last safe haven. Bormin once again takes his team into the irradiated Zone to find and eliminate the source of the threat, but this time he’s got some extra help: The veteran Stalker Big Khan.

4 new features in Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil

Seed of Evil continues the gameplay style from Road to Eden, with tactical turn-based combat combined with real-time exploration and stealth, but expands the options you have when choosing your team and their skills. It is, after all, an expansion! Here are 4 new things in Seed of Evil:

  1. More content: Seed of Evil takes place in an entirely new area of the Zone. Explore new maps and defeat the new plant based Pod Ghouls, who will attack you with mutations of their own. As you explore you’ll also find new weapons and armor, which will be of great help to you.
  2. A new Stalker enters the fray: Big Khan the moose is a legendary Stalker who left the Ark years ago for unknown reasons. He teams up with Bormin, Dux, and the rest of the team to fight the new threat and keep the Ark safe. Khan’s size and strength make him an excellent fighter, capable of landing highly damaging critical hits against enemies.
  3. New mutations: We’re introducing a brand new mechanic in Seed of Evil that lets you upgrade certain existing mutations. Bormin’s Hug Rosh can become a mighty Bear Smash, with increased power, while Selma’s Tree Hugger can become a Tree Caster ability, which can temporarily turn enemies into cover for you to hide behind.
  4. Retake lost territory: Zone Ghouls, bots and other horrors are encroaching on places you’ve already cleared out in Road to Eden. This time around they’re stronger than ever and your Stalkers are tasked by the Ark with clearing them out.

Good luck out there, Stalkers!

We’re excited to reveal the new expansion to Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. It’s called Seed of Evil and it will expand the original game in multiple ways. Head on over to the Steam Store to add Seed of Evil to your wishlist!

The expansion picks up where the original game ended and offers hours of more gameplay, new locations to visit, expanded gameplay options, and a new Mutant to add to your party: Big Khan, the moose.

When a mysterious enemy with the power to control plants threatens the Ark, the Stalkers must use their fighting skills to defeat the enemy’s minions, discover the enemy’s true identity, and save the Ark.

We highly recommend that you finish the main story in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden before playing Seed of Evil, due to story spoilers and the level range of the new content.

New features and Content

Seed of Evil brings a wide breadth of new content to Mutant Year Zero. Discover huge new maps, battle new enemies, improve your mutations, equip new gear, and face off against a vicious new adversary.

Continue the main story

See what happens after the ending of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. The lives of Bormin, Dux, Pripp and the others at the Ark continue. New events are unfolding as the weight of their new knowledge weigh down on them, and a new enemy appears from the shadows of the Zone.

Meet Big Khan, a brand-new playable Mutant

Buying the Seed of Evil expansion lets you add an entirely new Mutant to the team: Big Khan the moose. He is a veteran Stalker who has been exploring the Zone on his own in self-imposed exile. His size and strength make him an excellent fighter, capable of landing highly damaging critical hits against enemies. His unique mutations are Ground Pound and Flame Puke, attacks that make him effective at dealing with groups of enemies.

A new threat rises

The Ark has become enveloped in mysterious roots, and many of its inhabitants seem different from their normal selves. Even the Zone Ghouls seem to have changed. This new menace threatens not only the Ark, but the entire Zone, and it’s up to your team of Stalkers to set things right!

The new storyline in Seed of Evil offers new challenges in brand new maps. You will visit the Hall of Electric Coffins and the Mausoleum of Suburbia, to name a few. These areas are populated with new enemies, forcing you to rethink your regular tactics.

Improve your mutations

We’re introducing a brand-new mechanic in Seed of Evil that will allow you to upgrade and improve your mutations. Upgrade Bormin’s Hog Rush to a Bear Smash for increased power, or change Corpse Eater to Corpse Feaster, so recovering HP no longer costs an Action Point. Dux’ Moth Wings can be upgraded to Wings of the Sniper, which removes all range penalties from shots when flying.

Retake lost territory

Zone Ghouls and Polis Bots are once again encroaching on places like the Spear of Heaven or the Sea Titans. This time they’re stronger than ever and your Stalker team is tasked with clearing them out. Beware, though, the enemies are stronger than before!

New release date

We have decided to move the release date for Seed of Evil and the retail Deluxe Edition of Road to Eden back a month. The new release date for Mutant year Zero: Seed of Evil, and the retail Deluxe Edition, is July 30th for all platforms.

We know you’re very excited about the expansion, so are we, and we can’t wait to see what you think!

Welcome Stalkers, to your new testing grounds!

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is expanding with the release of Stalker Trials. This separate challenge mode rolls out in a free update and will truly put your skills as a Mutant Stalker to the test.

The game’s maps will be re-populated with different types of enemies to create new challenges for you and your chosen team. All characters, mutations and skills will be available at your fingertips, but you need to buy and upgrade any weapons and armor you think you’ll need.

Out in the Zone, Pripp the bartender will be waiting for you. He’s the brains behind the Stalker Trials, having set up the series of challenges for Dux, Bormin and the rest. As you fight your way through an area, Pripp will score you on your progress and performance, and you’ll be rewarded with extra points and multipliers by performing certain actions, like not taking damage, or killing an enemy with an Overwatch attack.

Your progress will be registered on leaderboards, and the weekly and all-time top players will have an NPC named after them for other players to take down.

Keep watching this space, as there is more to come down the line. We’re not quite ready to talk about it just yet, but we think you’ll like what we’ve got in the pipeline.

Greetings mutants and stalkers!

Today we are incredibly excited to announce that Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is expanding with the addition of Stalker Trials, a challenge mode that will truly put your skills to the test. We’re re-populating the game’s maps with different types of enemies to create new challenges for you and your chosen team of stalkers.

We’ll be rolling out the Stalker Trials on PC in a free update next week, on February 26th, so mark your calendars and get ready to gear up! This update is planned for console release at a later date.

Can you beat Skurk’s top score?

Sneak and fight to impress Pripp

The Stalker Trials give you access to all characters, with all mutations and skills unlocked, but you will have to buy and upgrade your weapons and armor before heading out. Once you’re satisfied with your loadout you can journey into the Zone and link up with Pripp, the bartender. He’s the brains behind the Stalker Trials, and will score you on your progress as you fight your way through an area. Your rewards will be new items and equipment that you can either use on a new map, or sett at Iridia’s shop.

Your progress will be noted down on the in-game leaderboards and the weekly and all-time top Stalker will have an NPC named after them for other players to take down. Pripp will also reward you with extra points if you clear a map in certain ways, for example by not taking damage or not using explosives.

Pripp will give you bonus points for clearing the map in certain ways

Watch this space

It’s been a fantastic two months since the launch on Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden in December, 2018. We’ve been following your tweets, forum and Reddit posts, YouTube videos and Twitch streams and it’s been an absolute blast to see what you’ve thought about the game.

During the time since launch we’ve been working on fixing bugs and issues with the game. Several of those fixes will come out alongside the Stalker Trials, on February 26. We will also continue to roll out additional patches as needed.

Keep watching this space. We’ve got even more stuff coming down the line, but we’re not quite ready to talk about that just yet.

Stalkers and mutants rejoice!

It is time to venture into the irradiated Zone to discover the truth behind the mythical Eden, a potential safe haven in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, alongside your mutated Stalker companions.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden has officially launched on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One! Getting to make an adaptation of such a fantastic roleplaying game has been an amazing journey. We’re all fans of Mutant Year Zero and we hope we’ve done justice to the original pen and paper RPG.

5 things you should know when playing MYZ: Road to Eden

Before you jump into the game we wanted to give you a quick list of tips and tricks that might come in handy when playing the game:

  1. Take it slow: When you come to a new map, take your time to walk around and scope out the terrain and number of enemies you’ll face. The key to player Road to Eden is planning, so take it slow, explore, and think ahead.
  2. Quiet is best: Turning off your flashlight will allow you to sneak around without being discovered. This lets you set up ambushes against isolated enemies, hopefully without alerting everyone else in the area. Silent weapons are your friends in the early stages of the game. Use them as much as possible!
  3. No one dies in the wimp zone: Always remember to take cover during combat so you’re protected against enemies. Anyone not behind cover is easy pickings for the Zone Ghouls and other creatures.
  4. Return to the Ark often: The Ark is your home in the Zone. Here you can upgrade your equipment, buy new gear and unlock team skills. It’s a good idea to often travel back to the Ark to see what’s available to you. It might make the difference between life and death in your next combat encounter.
  5. Check every corner: As you travel through the Zone you should check every nook and cranny for hidden scrap, weapon parts, new equipment and other goodies. You never know what you might find!

Which Mutant Are You?

Do you wonder which of the MYZ: Road to Eden mutants you’d be? Are you sassy and stealthy, like Dux, or a no-nonsense fighter like Bormin? Then we have exactly what you need!

Answer a few questions in the following link to see which mutant Stalker you resemble the most: Which Mutant Stalker are you?

Are you a content creator or influencer or Twitch, Mixer, Twitter or YouTube? If so you might want to check out our Revenue Share Program. With this you can generate an affiliate link and add it to whatever channel or social media platform you’re using.
