(Sonoma County, CA) — Rack & Riddle, the leading custom sparkling wine producer in the United States, has announced a strategic facility realignment to strengthen long-term growth, increase efficiency, and accelerate innovation. The plans include developing a new Sparkling Innovation Park (SIP) embedded within its Healdsburg site, consolidating key operations into a single, world-class location. The Lodi facility, which was added as part of the acquisition of Weibel Family Winery in 2023, will be permanently relocated to Healdsburg. The Rack & Riddle Geyserville and Alexander Valley operations will not be impacted by this consolidation.
Sparkling wine continues to be the third largest wine type in the U.S., behind only Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, and sparkling wine is outperforming still wines in scanner data. Rack & Riddle has steadily innovated and grown along with market shifts and demands. This initiative reflects a broader effort to optimize and centralize the company’s physical footprint while supporting long-term operational strength in Sonoma County.
“As the sparkling wine category continues to introduce new offerings, we are intentionally evolving our business to ensure we remain the strongest partner for our winery and retail customers,” said Rack & Riddle CEO Jeff Tuttle. “This is about building the next chapter of Rack & Riddle — investing in innovation, scale and operational excellence, so we can continue to lead the sparkling category for decades to come.”
“All of us at Rack & Riddle are deeply grateful for the contributions of our team members based in Lodi. They have played an important role in our growth,” Tuttle added, stating that hands-on support in the form of resources and transition planning is being provided to affected employees to enable next steps in their careers.” Rack & Riddle also plans to add new roles at its Sonoma County operation in alignment with its expanding needs.
Rack & Riddle began as a small, specialized sparkling wine house focused on traditional Méthode Champenoise production 19 years ago. Over time, the company expanded to offer the full spectrum of sparkling wine methods — including Charmat, in-line carbonation and canned premium sparkling wines — growing into the largest custom sparkling wine producer in the United States.
Rack & Riddle is the #1 custom sparkling wine producer in the U.S. With a legacy of creating sparkling wines for wineries of all sizes, the company pairs traditional methods with modern innovation. Founded in 2007, the company delivers turnkey sparkling wine solutions and custom brands, including Méthode Champenoise, CALSECCO® and Charmat style wines, flavors, and no- and low-alcohol wines. Production spans three world-class Sonoma County facilities, reflecting Rack & Riddle’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and long-term partnerships.

Sonoma County, CA — Rack & Riddle, the #1 custom sparkling wine producer in the United States, has created CALSECCO a new California sparkling wine category developed to drive growth and attract young 21+ Gen Z and Millennial consumers to premium California sparkling wine.
“CALSECCO represents a new generation of sparkling wine—deeply rooted in tradition yet distinctly Californian. The winemaking legacy of California has proven its place among the world’s great wines. While we have excelled in still wines and Méthode Champenoise sparkling wines, the premium category for wines crafted in the Italian method remains untapped,” said Rack & Riddle General Manager Mark Garaventa.
“We have the right climate and terroir here in California to grow the finest sparkling wine grapes in the world,” Garaventa added. “Consumers are thirsty for modern, fruit-forward wines, making the U.S. market perfectly primed for CALSECCO. Rack & Riddle has exclusively registered this trademark for use by our clients. CALSECCO is grown and crafted in California and made in the Venetian tradition.”
“Our winemaking team visited leading Italian Prosecco houses in 2022 and came back so inspired,” said & Riddle Executive Director of Winemaking Manveer Sandhu. “We loved the fresh, vibrant style we experienced there, and decided to employ that winemaking method in California to create our own expression. CALSECCO, intentionally local, is made from 100% California-grown and vinted grapes. As a winemaker, this is exciting, as we have created an entirely new category of U.S. sparkling wine.”
Market demand for sparkling wine has remained steady, one in every seven bottles of wine sold in the U. S. are sparkling; the premium sparkling wine segment priced at $13 to $17.99 per 750ml bottle retail is the largest segment with a 39% share of market that continues to grow. Appealing to a younger, educated, affluent and diverse consumer, Italian-style sparkling wines sold 11.7 million cases in the United States in 2024.
“Making CALSECCO is a natural step in Rack & Riddle’s expanded services and a reflection of the innovation on which the company was founded and has operated since it was founded in 2007,” Sandhu explained, “We have invested in the finest equipment, facilities and winemakers to bring this new wine category to market. Our team brings more than one hundred years of combined winemaking experience, and our commitment to the highest quality possible at every step in the process is unparalleled.”
