Building Stronger Communities Together: Our Community Impact in 2025 https://www.windover.com/blog/building-stronger-communities-together-our-community-impact-in-2025/ Tue, 20 Jan 2026 18:51:28 +0000 https://www.windover.com/?p=14821 As a firm committed to building more than just buildings, the Windover team is passionate about continuously giving back to organizations that make an impact.

In addition to corporate giving, Windover employees also donate their time, expertise, and resources, and many are involved in Windover’s Social Sustainability Committee, an employee-led community-focused group that supports these organizations through fundraising and volunteering.

As we reflect on 2025, we’re proud to highlight these organizations and share a snapshot of how our employees came together to give back, support neighbors in need, and invest in the communities where we build.

Spotlighting Organizations Making an Impact

Throughout the year, we partnered with a wide range of organizations focused on helping women, children, and families in need; enhancing housing, educational, and community programs; assisting with local military & service initiatives; and broadening and sharing our understanding of and sensitivity to the environment. Some of these organizations include:

  • ADL
  • Beverly Bootstraps
  • Care Dimensions
  • Essex County Community Fund
  • Family Services of Merrimack Valley
  • HAWC
  • Mental Health Collaborative
  • Northeast Arc
  • Open Door
  • The Salem Pantry
  • Veterans Supportive Housing
  • Wellspring
  • Youth Villages

Each partnership reflects the causes our team cares about and the belief that small actions can create meaningful change.

Our Team in Action

Some of the most meaningful moments happen when our employees roll up their sleeves and work side-by-side with the organizations we support. In 2025, our team:

  • Volunteered with the Cape Ann Kids Holiday Fund to help set up the Wellspring Holiday Store.
  • Hosted Boston Children’s Hospital’s Bloodmobile and donated 38 units of blood, with each unit helping up to 4 children.
  • Participated in Family Services of Merrimack Valley’s Walk for Hope, which raises awareness of mental health challenges and suicide prevention.
  • Thanked our local veterans by hosting breakfasts, supporting holiday celebrations, and, most importantly, spending time together.
  • Donated gifts for 20 children to support Youth Villages’ Holiday Heroes program, and funds to fill backpacks in Beverly Bootstraps’ Back-to-School Backpack Program.
  • Hit the links for golf tournaments to support important causes like mental health, senior care, and access to education.

These experiences not only strengthen our communities—they strengthen our team.

Looking Ahead

As we move into 2026, we look forward to expanding our partnerships, supporting new organizations, and continuing to share resources where they matter most.

People Spotlight: Meet Ian Buckley https://www.windover.com/blog/people-spotlight-meet-ian-buckley/ Thu, 04 Dec 2025 14:20:14 +0000 https://www.windover.com/?p=14794 Each quarter, we spotlight employees who live out our core values every day. This quarter we are highlighting Project Manager, Ian Buckley!

Ian joined Windover in 2017 and, since then, has gained insights into many facets of construction, from estimating to field operations. Detail-oriented and committed to quality, Ian works closely with his project teams to ensure efficient planning, clear communication, and successful project delivery.  Ian recently completed Windover’s second project with non-profit developer Harborlight Homes, Anchor Point II, and was instrumental in delivering the new affordable housing development to the Beverly community. He’s always eager to take intelligent risks, moving his team forward with confidence and clarity. One of his teammates shared: “Ian is always even-keeled no matter the situation, lending to his steady leadership”.

We asked Ian to share a few things about himself and his time at Windover.

What is your favorite thing about working at Windover?
It’s the cliche answer, but it’s the people, and their commitment.  Everyone is dedicated to providing an outstanding product and the team dynamics make for an enjoyable environment.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My projects over the past few years have been in the affordable housing market.  Through our relationship with the non-profit developer Harborlight Homes, we’ve seen just how widespread the housing problem is, and how there are no age limits for those affected.  Being able to complete these homes and see the excitement on a child’s face who now has their own bedroom for the first time in their life and a splash park in their backyard, and the relief on the face of a senior citizen who will be able to live out their later years in comfort has been amazing. It’s also been meaningful to have handwritten notes from new residents expressing their joy and gratitude passed along to us.

What is your favorite part about working with your team?
The trust and support within the immediate project team.  We’ve been together for a few projects in a row now, so it’s been great learning where each person excels and how to best use everyone to their full potential. It’s a great group to work with.

What is your current favorite thing to do in your free time?
What free time?!?  Kids keep me busy… but we have lots of other friends with kids, so we tend to just lump them all together and let things play out.  Adults try and regain some sanity while the older kids teach the younger ones the ways of the world.

If you were building your dream home, what would it include?
Big backyard, screen porch, an outdoor kitchen, a pool. I’d love a big kitchen and an open living area, and a home office would be nice. I’d take anything that doesn’t come with a mortgage!

What is your favorite way to get involved with the community?
I’ve coached youth sports, participated in food drives, and I attend local events to support local artists and businesses.

People Spotlight: Meet Kelsie Thomson https://www.windover.com/blog/people-spotlight-meet-kelsie-thomson/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 19:39:50 +0000 https://www.windover.com/?p=14765 Each quarter, we spotlight employees who live out our core values every day. This quarter we are highlighting Employee Experience Specialist, Kelsie Thomson!

Kelsie joined Windover in 2018 and has since become a vital part of our Human Resources team. Known for her strong interpersonal skills and natural ability to connect with others, she consistently strives to stand in their shoes – approaching every interaction with empathy and understanding. Her capacity to balance multiple responsibilities with grace makes her a reliable and valued team member. One of her teammates shared: “Kelsie is both a great friend and a great coworker. She’s always there to lend a hand, no matter the situation.”

We asked Kelsie to share a few things about herself and her time at Windover.

What is your favorite thing about working at Windover?
My favorite thing about working at Windover is the people and the culture. It truly feels like a family here. Everyone is supportive, collaborative, and genuinely cares about one another’s success and wellbeing. It’s so rewarding to work for a company that values both excellence and thoughtfulness in everything we do both in and outside of work.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I love being able to make a meaningful impact on people’s experience at work, whether it’s helping someone grow in their career, improving a process that makes life easier, or creating moments that make people feel appreciated. Being in HR allows me to connect with everyone across the company and help build an environment where people feel valued and excited to come to work.

What is your favorite part about working with your team?
My team is such a positive and driven group. We balance professionalism with laughter, creativity, and genuine care for one another. We celebrate each other’s wins, jump in to help when things get busy, and always find ways to make our work more meaningful and fun. It’s a team that feels like family, which makes all the difference.

What is your current favorite thing to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love spending time with family, friends, and my pup, cooking a big meal, baking something sweet, or decorating for the next season or holiday. I also make time for exercise as it’s my way to recharge and stay grounded. And when I’m not doing that, you’ll probably find me browsing local shops or finding inspiration for my next home project or outfit with an iced coffee from a local coffee shop in hand.

If you were building your dream home, what would it include?
My dream home would feature a big, open kitchen, the true heart of the home where everyone can gather for holidays and celebrations. I’d love a cozy outdoor space for entertainment, a beautiful pantry and coffee nook, and warm, inviting décor that makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. While I love creating a beautiful space, what means the most to me are the people who fill it. A full table surrounded by family and friends from all walks of life is what truly makes our house a home.

What is your favorite way to get involved with the community, either through Windover or other organizations?
I’m especially proud to serve as co-chair of Windover’s Social Sustainability Committee, where our mission is to support women, children, and families; promote educational programs; honor and assist local military and veterans; and champion sustainability efforts. It’s incredibly rewarding to help lead initiatives that have a lasting, positive impact in these areas.

Windover’s Jess Cranney Recognized With Diamond Award https://www.windover.com/blog/windovers-jess-cranney-recognized-with-diamond-award/ Fri, 05 Sep 2025 12:57:19 +0000 https://www.windover.com/?p=14645 Windover’s Jess Cranney was one of the six fantastic awardees recognized at the North Shore Chamber’s annual Diamond Awards breakfast on August 21st. The Diamond Award honors outstanding women of influence and leadership in the region, and we are so proud that she was recognized for her commitment and passion for leading with purpose, empowering women, serving others, and making an impact.

Jess leads with intention, integrity, and an unwavering sense of purpose. As Project Manager of Field Support Team & Special Projects at Windover, Jess oversees a field services team of 25 carpenters and laborers. In an industry that is still predominantly male, Jess stands out not because she seeks the spotlight, but because she earns respect through hard work, humility, and her people-first mindset. She is a leader who rolls up her sleeves, listens deeply, and leads by example. Jess drives excellence while cultivating a team culture grounded in trust, support, and shared purpose.

In addition to her role at Windover, Jess also mentors students from Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School who are interested in careers in construction. She helps them build confidence, understand the realities of the industry, and envision a future for themselves. She embodies Windover’s mission and makes the construction industry more inclusive, compassionate, and forward-thinking in the process.

But Jess’s commitment to serving her community doesn’t stop there. Outside of work, Jess is a certified Search and Rescue K9 handler and volunteers her time selflessly, using her three black Labradors, Jackson, Bowyer, and Welles, to serve others in extraordinary ways. She participates in Search and Rescue missions, helping locate missing and deceased persons, offering critical support in moments of crisis. Additionally, she and her dogs visit local libraries to read with children, creating comforting, joyful experiences that foster literacy and emotional connection.

She is a licensed pilot and recently celebrated two years of active flight experience. Jess also held a 50-ton Master Captain’s License issued by the U.S. Coast Guard, reflecting her maritime leadership and operational expertise. In addition to her academic and technical credentials, Jess was recently elected Vice President of the Massachusetts Canine Response Team, a volunteer search and rescue organization she has proudly served for the past 10 years. Her diverse achievements highlight a rare blend of academic excellence, technical skill, and service-driven leadership.

Jess believes in lifting people up – especially young women in trades and construction. She serves not for recognition, but because she sees potential in others and wants to help them succeed. She empowers her team through active listening, clear communication, and support. She is a safe person to learn from, make mistakes around, and grow beside. By breaking stereotypes in the field and staying grounded in service, she quietly redefines what leadership can look like. Jess embodies Windover’s mission and makes the construction industry more inclusive, compassionate, and forward-thinking in the process.

Congratulations, Jess, on this amazing award and well-deserved recognition!

Project Spotlight: Centennial Arts Center at Concord Academy https://www.windover.com/blog/project-sptotlight-centennial-arts-center-at-concord-academy/ Tue, 15 Jul 2025 14:14:04 +0000 https://www.windover.com/?p=14606 Partnering with Windover Construction, DSK Architects, and a team of industry-leading consultants, Concord Academy embarked on a mission to create a state-of-the-art performing arts center on its West Campus that would transform the student experience.

The Centennial Arts Center (CAC) is a 37,000-square-foot facility designed with professional-level systems, equipment, and functionality. Emphasizing flexibility and technical quality, the building features spaces that allow students to hone their skills and study the craft, including a 175-seat theater, recital hall, lab spaces, ensemble and practice rooms, a scene shop, and a dressing room.

Theater space with retractable seats facing the stage.

The 175-seat theater was built for flexibility. With retractable seats, a flat stage, and seven catwalks, the space accommodates mainstage productions, directors’ workshops, technical theater classes, dance performances, and film screenings.

The CAC creates a learning environment where students can discover, practice, and master the craft of the performing arts, providing hands-on experiences with the same level of technology and professional-grade systems used in the industry today. The entire facility was designed to serve as both a stage and a classroom. The integration of advanced lighting and sound systems and acoustic engineering wasn’t just about performance – it was about exposure and education. Students are learning what it takes to bring a show to life from backstage to front-of-house.

Delivering this vision required the highest caliber of technical construction. The CAC features state-of-the-art theater, music, and AV systems – expertly designed, coordinated, and installed to create an optimal environment for practice and performance. Integrating all these systems into one facility required extensive coordination during design and preconstruction, as well as rigorous attention to detail throughout construction.

Recital room with sleek hardwood floors, a piano, and seats facing the piano and stage

The recital hall features intricate and beautifully designed acoustics that can accommodate a wide range of uses, like chamber music and jazz workshops.

“The project’s success was made possible through collaboration, communication, and a unified focus on delivering an exceptional space for the Concord Academy community. We worked very closely with the design team both in the model and in the physical building to ensure all spaces and systems were delivered as intended,” shares Randy Catlin, Windover’s Executive Vice President and COO.

From custom-made theater seats from Belgium to recital room panels imported from Sweden, every component had to be installed to exact specifications to achieve the building’s precise acoustical performance. For example, in the practice rooms, the 150-pound soundproofing doors and acoustic flooring required very stringent FF/FL ratios of zero. Windover’s team used in-house laser scanning to ensure compliance with these tight tolerances. The design called for all finish floors to be at exactly the same plane, regardless of the depth of the various flooring materials, requiring the slabs on deck to be placed at various thicknesses and closely coordinated at the points where the different materials would meet – all before the walls were framed. Windover’s use of the 3D model was critical in achieving these requirements.

Catwalk above theater in the Arts Center

The CAC features seven independent catwalks above the theater.

Meticulous coordination continued throughout the recital hall, which features tiered seating, baffle ceilings, acoustic panels, HVAC ductwork, and custom millwork – all designed to contain and enhance sound. As the pieces came together, comprehensive coordination meetings between trade partners ensured precise installation. Any misstep or delay could have caused cascading schedule impacts, so Windover employed close monitoring and expert sequencing.

The design of the CAC embraces flexibility and caters to end-user needs by integrating open landscapes and a variety of internal social, hangout, and collaboration areas, while thoughtfully harmonizing natural light and spatial requirements to create an inspiring environment. A harmonious addition to the campus, the high-tech building aligns with Concord Academy’s and town’s sustainability objectives, incorporating a high-performance building envelope, all-electric systems, and on-site renewable energy solutions.

A harmonius addition to the campus, the design of the CAC embraces flexibility and caters to end-user needs by integrating open landscapes and a variety of internal social, hangout, and collaboration areas, creating an inspiring environment.

The building is also utilizing digital twin technology to optimize performance and maintenance after construction. The digital twin, a comprehensive 3D model developed by Windover and given to Concord Academy after construction, provides a living, data-rich replica of the building. This allows real-time insight into O&M information as well as building performance, enabling facilities staff to monitor and optimize systems, and further reducing the building’s environmental footprint.
