ABOUT THE HACKATHON

The Electrical & Software Engineering Students' Society (ZOO) and Tech Start UCalgary are partnering with Cursor to host the biggest hackathon on campus yet.

Compete in teams of 3 to 4 participants in a 24-hour sprint to build real-world projects using the next generation of development tools.

Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and test their limits in a high-energy environment.

The official theme drops at kickoff on Saturday. Grab your team and bring your laptops for a weekend of learning and building.

Requirements

What to Build: 
On the day of the event, a topic prompt will be displayed to all students. As a team, it is your responsibility to build a software project (We will not be accepting Figma projects) around that theme and submit it in ~24 hours.

What to Submit: 

  • A 2-4 minute video presentation of your project. This video should include a full demo of your product. 
  • A description of your project.
  • A link to your project on GitHub.

Judging Criteria

  • Innovation
    How original and creative is the solution? Judges will consider the novelty of the idea and how thoughtfully it approaches the challenge.
  • Impact
    How meaningful is the problem being addressed, and how much potential does the solution have to help people?
  • Usability
    How intuitive and accessible is the product? Judges will look at how easy it is for someone to understand and use the solution.
  • Technical Execution
    How well was the solution built? Judges will consider the quality of the implementation and how effectively technology is used.
  • Implementation
    How functional and well-developed is the prototype? Judges will consider how clearly the submission demonstrates the core idea.
  • Presentation
    How clearly and effectively the team pitches their product. Judges will consider the clarity of the explanation, quality of the demo, and how well the team conveys the problem, solution, and value of their product.
