We're a mix of protocol veterans and rising contributors from around the world, all working toward one goal: ensuring the Bitcoin protocol thrives for generations to come.
We're always eager to expand our network and meet talented developers working on Bitcoin. Whether you're tackling protocol improvements, building tools, or contributing to the broader ecosystem, we want to hear from you. Our Amsterdam office serves as a hub for collaboration, and we welcome opportunities to connect with contributors who share our vision for sustainable, long-term Bitcoin development.
While we're not actively hiring at the moment—we brought on a wave of new team members in late 2024 and are focused on getting everyone settled at the Amsterdam office—we're always interested in building relationships with people doing meaningful work. If you're curious about what we're up to, want to explore potential collaborations, or are simply looking to network with other developers in the space, please reach out.
When we do have the capacity to expand our team again, whether through full-time positions or our fellowship program, we'd love to already have you on our radar. In the meantime, let's stay connected – email us at [email protected].
2140 is a collective that exists to strengthen Bitcoin through fundamental research and development, and to support the developer community through stable employment, mentorship, and education. We help aspiring contributors get started through our fellowship program, and we provide established protocol engineers with the long-term backing they need to focus on what matters most.

Josie found his way into Bitcoin through a love of open source and the DIY ethic of building magic internet money from scratch. He spends most of his time thinking about the intersection of usability and privacy, working on things like improving the privacy of coin selection algorithms to wallet usability improvements such as Silent Payments. Josie also cares a lot about developer tooling and productivity; he firmly believes that happy devs do the best work. Beyond Bitcoin, he’s very likely to try and show you pictures of his dogs or tell you about his latest fermentation experiments in the kitchen.

Co-founder, Bitcoin Sorcerer
Ruben is a connoisseur of ideas with a keen eye for efficiency. Learning a concept is not enough - it must be reshaped as a compact, easily combinable puzzle piece that can help solve complex problems. While the outcome may be indistinguishable from sorcery, this is how Somsen came up with SwiftSync, Silent Payments, Spacechains, Statechains, and more - all foundational protocols designed to enhance Bitcoin in novel and inventive ways. And this old sorcerer has been around for a while, founding the Seoul Bitcoin Meetup in 2014. Since then he’s been moderating the bitcoindev mailing list and involved with the BIP editor process, Delving Bitcoin, and BitDevs Amsterdam.
