MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD

It is a profound honor to serve as the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the nation’s premier institution for engineering excellence. As we celebrate a decade of growth since our inception in 2016, we stand at a pivotal juncture. Our journey thus far has been defined by a commitment to academic rigor and high-impact research, and we are now focused on elevating our program to become a globally recognized center of excellence in biomedical engineering.

Our mission is centered on three core pillars: first, to cultivate the next generation of biomedical engineers as ethical leaders prepared to navigate complex professional and social landscapes; second, to push the boundaries of human knowledge through cutting-edge research across diverse fields such as tissue engineering, medical imaging, neural engineering and artificial intelligence; and third, to develop innovative, scalable healthcare solutions that address the critical needs of the Global South while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We are fortunate to draw upon a foundation of exceptional talent, including the brightest undergraduate students in Bangladesh and a dedicated faculty with extensive international training. Our department boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including an advanced Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), wet laboratories, and GPU clusters for computational medicine. Crucially, we leverage a robust network of collaborations with leading clinical and research institutions, as well as prestigious international partnerships with universities such as Johns Hopkins, Oxford University, and Imperial College.

Looking ahead, we are committed to establishing clear, long-term priorities that focus on solving real-world healthcare challenges through innovation. We are actively developing and iterating our teaching, research, and innovation methods to ensure we maximize our resources and capabilities. By fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, we expect our graduates not only to excel in academia and industry but also to lead spin-off companies that provide cost-effective medical solutions. We welcome all who share our passion for excellence and collaboration with academia, industry and government, as we continue to lead the advancement of modern healthcare in Bangladesh and beyond.
