Call for Code AI
Impact
Call for Code was built on a simple but radical premise: that the best ideas in the world are worthless if they never leave the building.
Since 2018, developers across more than 190 countries have created solutions addressing the world's most urgent challenges — from disaster response and climate resilience to food security, water safety, and public health. But what distinguished Call for Code was what happened after the competition ended.
IBM's Code and Response program committed $25 million to transform winning solutions into deployable technologies. The Linux Foundation open-sourced the strongest innovations — putting them in the hands of the global developer community for continuous improvement and worldwide adoption.
The proof is specific. Project OWL rebuilt emergency communications in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Prometeo put AI-powered health monitoring on firefighters battling wildfires in Spain — developed by a nurse, a firefighter, and three developers, and now scaling globally. These are not case studies in potential. They are proof of a system that works.
Now, Call for Code AI builds on that foundation — connecting global innovation to the infrastructure, expertise, and institutional support required to move solutions from concept to deployment. Standards set by UN Human Rights. Open-source pathway through the Linux Foundation. Institutional reach to governments and communities worldwide.

The model is not new. The stakes are.
The following innovations progressed from Call for Code competitions to real-world deployment — demonstrating the foundation upon which Call for Code AI is now built.
