FAQ
About Beanstack
What is Beanstack?
Beanstack is a portal to your library’s reading programs. When you create your Beanstack account for yourself or your family, you are setting up your ability to login and participate in any programs available for your age or grade level. Once you create your account, you may participate in any programs set up by your library by logging your reading and activities per reader on your account.
What should I expect in the emails I receive from Beanstack?
You will receive weekly (ages 0-12) or bi-weekly (ages 13+) emails from Beanstack once you have signed up for an account. These emails include book recommendations based on your age and any preferences you have indicated for that reader. Little ones also receive learning tips for books. Additionally, you may receive a recommendation for an upcoming event at the library, notification of your most recent activity within a library program, and other announcements the library may want to share that week.
Does this mean I shouldn’t let my child log reading for a program on paper?
Of course not! If you or your child prefer paper, and your library provides a log, please do continue to record your progress on paper. That said, be sure that you also have registered in Beanstack, and either record all activities and reading periodically, or head to your library to ask for help with this.
Signing Up
Can I sign up more than one reader on one account?
Yes. You can set up as many profiles as you like, for readers of any age.
Can I sign up a group on Beanstack?
Yes. To do this, look for “Group Sign Up” on the homepage. You may sign up with a general group for whom you log as one entity, or with individuals for whom you log and record activities individually.
Do I register each time a new program at my library begins?
No. Rather, you may select the “Sign in” option, and you will be able to opt in to participate in additional or concurrent programs.
Nuts and Bolts
What is a badge?
A badge is a visual representation on the reader's account of successful completion of a specific goal level, activity, or learning track.
What are learning tracks?
Learning tracks are sets of activities tied into a particular theme. Your library may include your completing activities, like attending a library event, as part of the programs available on Beanstack.
How do I update my login information or change my email address?
Select “Account,” and then once in your account, you may update all information. After making the updates, remember to select “save.”
Where do I update my reading preferences in Beanstack?
To personalize preferences for your reader, select “personalize” within that reader’s page.
How do I cancel my account?
You may deactivate readers anytime by going to “Personalize” within that reader’s page and selecting “deactivate.” If you want to remove your account altogether, visit or call your local library, and they can do this on your behalf.
Sharing a Reader
How can I use Beanstack to collaborate with teachers and family?
You can share access to your child's reader page with family members and teachers so that they can see your list of selected books and learning guides. This can be useful for keeping them up-to-date on what your child or loved one is reading.
How do I share a reader’s profile with others?
Go to your reader’s homepage. From there, select “Personalize” and then “Share this reader.” You can then add the email address of the person(s) you want to invite. You’ll be able to see when that person has accepted your invite and can also revoke their access at anytime. You may both now update and edit that reader’s profile as needed.
I have a share code. How do I use it?
Select “Use a Share Code” at the top of the homepage and you will be prompted from there. If you already have an account, go to “Account” and select “use a share code” on the left navigation.
Miscellaneous
How do you choose which books to curate?
We have a team of librarians and experts across the country catalog books that they have found really useful for the families and individuals they serve. From there, your local librarians curate additional books and decide which of these to include in the database and recommendations provided to your specific community.
I have a more specific question. How do I get in touch?
