Nutshell terms
Here's a quick introduction to the terms and data you'll encounter inside of Nutshell. These definitions are focused toward developers who are integrating with Nutshell.
Companies & people
Companies and people are as simple as they sound: a company has a name, description and may have 0 or more people attached to it. People may also have one or more companies attached to them. (For example, a person may be linked to their current employer and their past employers).
Companies ↔️ accounts & people ↔️ contactsIn the Nutshell application, we refer to companies and people.
In the API, you may see companies referred to as accountsand people referred to as contacts.
Leads
Leads are also referred to as deals, prospects or opportunities in other CRMs. In Nutshell, there is only one type of entity, and it is a lead. There's no confusing concept of "converting" an opportunity to a lead. A lead may be open or closed. A closed lead has an outcome which may be won, or any number of user-configurable lost or cancelled outcomes.
Leads can be associated with companies, people, sources, competitors, products, tags and more.
A lead's monetary value (i.e. $1,000) is calculated from all the products associated with that lead.
Pipelines & stages
Leads typically move through a pipeline, which is a linear series of stages. You may see a pipeline referred to as a stageset, and you may see a stage referred to as a milestone.
Activities
Activities in Nutshell are typically calendar-like events. They have a start & end time, as well as a name and participants. Activities are logged by users to confirm that they occurred.
Products & markets
Nutshell administrators can define a product catalog, as well as a collection of markets. Markets are effectively different currency types. A product may have multiple values (i.e. Widget X might have a value of $1,000USD and €900EUR).
While products have default values, those values can be modified when they are associated with a lead. A widget with a default price of $500 may be set to $400 when it is attached to a particular lead.
Tags
Tags are simple strings that can be attached to companies, people and leads. Note that the buckets of tags are unique per entity type.
For example, the tag Excellent customer might be a company tag which can't be applied to a lead or a person.
