Inspiration

As two high school students, we both realized that our schools did not formally teach students how to manage finances or build credit. However, learning how to build a credit score is important for purchasing big-ticket items and navigating the real world. We wanted to make something with Capital One that would make it fun and easy to learn about different credit cards.

What it does

Credit Click is a clicker game with different "boosts" acting as the three different featured cards on Capital One's website. There are also other boosts that you can use that are modelled after other real ways to build credit (ex. paying bills on time). Your score is your credit score, which starts at 300 and maxes out at 850.

We also included a chatbot so the user could discuss credit with a bot in real time to learn more information.

How we built it

We built our project on repl.it and we used HTML/CSS/JS. We also used Google Fonts.

Challenges we ran into

For the clicker, the hardest part was trying to find connections between how different credit cards worked and how to translate that into score changes in the game. For example, for a card that gives you extra miles in real life, we decided to "go the extra mile" and increase points +5 per click.

It was also challenging to make automatic changes by a set interval for the QuickSilver card, which gives regular rewards (based on purchases) in real life.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our final product! We think we succeeded in making a webapp that educates users about credit cards in a new, fun way!

What we learned

We learned how to build a clicker with JavaScript! We also weren't super familiar with bots, so we learned how to trigger responses from different keywords.

What's next for Credit Click

We definitely want to expand the clicker to include more cards and add ways for the credit score to decrease. I think this would make it more realistic, and more fun for the player.
