Overview Hospital-Bed-tracker is a Native Android app built to track the total number of beds and the number of beds available in any hospital. This was built using JAVA, XML for front-end, and Firebase for the backend.
The problem it solves : The idea behind the app is to minimize the waste of crucial time that a patient has during any emergency. In such cases sometimes a lot of casualties happen just because of not being able to find the empty bed in any hospital (more likely to happen in the current pandemic situation). Now with the help of this app one can check the number of beds vacant which will definitely save time.
Phases: We developed the app in two phases -
Phase 1: In this phase, we made a roadmap to the development and also collected all the resources/ assets we were going to use in our application during development. We started developing and developed the according to the following roadmap : Welcome Screen (Option to choose between User & Hospital ) User authentication ( Phone OTP verification) Hospital Registration ( All the parts of forms ) Bed details to the user (Bed Details shown to the user in recycler view)
Phase 2: This is the last day a few hours left, all the big parts were complete, we followed the pre-decided roadmap : Bed Data update (For the employee to update data) Completing small things like (Logout, menus, On resume, On stop ) Adding and changing the drawable files. Looking for the bugs and making app submission-ready.
Challenges we ran into : The Biggest challenge we had was to make this idea into a practical app in just a few hours. In terms of the process, we kept on trying to make the UI as best as possible so we had issues in the selection of the assets/ font/ icons we were going to use. Another problem that we faced regularly was the verification of the person adding Hospital (registration ) , to solve this we decided to add an employee database with the ID card of the employee so as to verify the authenticity of the person. For doing this we ran into some issues with Firebase storage. Another big part of the app was to show bed details to the user, we handled it well and used a recycler view with a search option at the top.
What next : This app we developed and we want this to be a part of daily life, because this can be an ultimate asset for society. We want every hospital with any website or mobile app to include this feature.
Thanks and regards
