Inspiration
We were inspired by idle resource management games like Cookie Clicker and Adventure Capitalist.
What it does
Makin' Crates is an educational game intended to educate students on both the mindset of sustainability and the calculus concept of optimization. As the player, you have recently inherited an old wooden crate factory from your estranged grandfather. It's up to you to discover the optimum crate size for maximum profit. Happy optimizing!
How we built it
The site is built using HTML/CSS/Javascript and uses the Bootstrap.css library. The demo itself is hosted on GitHub pages. Figma was used to create a prototype.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with both merge and scheduling conflicts. As half of our team was in Pacific Standard Time and the other half was in India Standard Time, we were always twelve and a half hours ahead or behind. We also struggled with coming up with an idea in a timely manner.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the speed of development we managed to achieve. We were pretty disorganized at the beginning, but fortunately, we were able to pull through and finish with a minimum viable product that is up and running.
What we learned
Many of us had never used GitHub Pages, Figma, or Bootstrap.css before but were able to familiarize ourselves with these technologies soon after.
What's next for Makin' Crates
We plan to implement more features and improve the user interface. In the long term, we plan to implement a save system, account system, and more resource management game features. A rewrite in a proper HTML5 game engine is planned.
