Inspiration 🌟
The inspiration behind our project was our discussion of the concepts of synesthesia and the mental palace learning technique. We wanted to figure out a way to help people understand and develop these techniques in an engaging and fun manner, so we brought up the idea of making a mnemonics-based quizlet-ish webapp, and we went with it.
What it does 🌟
The idea was for users to be able to access the webapp and save their mnemonics "flashcards" onto it. They could then choose between the different groupings of pnemonics that they made and test themselves on how well they associate the mnemonic with the meaning or vice versa.
How we built it 🌟
We tried building it in two different ways. The first build is a React WebApp that would use LocalStorage to store a user's data, like the different mnemonics they are trying to test themselves on. Our second approach is a Vite Webapp built on Svelte using TypeScript, which was also going to use LocalStorage for user data
Challenges we ran into 🌟
One of the challenges we ran into was figuring out how we were going to implement our idea. Each of us have varied skillsets and strengths, so it was pretty difficult to find a common ground on which we could start building our project. We also ran into problems with splitting the tasks we needed to complete, also due to our different skills as well as uncertainty regarding how to approach implementation. Lastly, putting in enough time for the project amidst a plethora of workshops and events also proved to be a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🌟
100% CPU Usage, Crashing Chrome a couple of times, learning Svelte and React from scratch for this project.
What we learned 🌟
We reinforced our knowledge of Svelte and React, and even gained some insight into Mnemonics by reading some academic articles.
What's next for Mnemono-mania 🌟
Mnemono-Mania was created with the intention to train peoples' memories in the most efficient ways. In the future we will pursue this project in greater depth (and hopefully skill) so that we will have more ways to test and improve memory. We plan on continuing this project beyond this experience, and we will eventually complete its construction as an actual tool. Upon completion, the tool will be able to test memory with varying levels of difficulty, to reach a larger target audience.
