Inspiration π‘
Climate change is primarily caused by the buildup of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere. Unfortunately, human activities such as transportation, industry, and agriculture all emit carbon dioxide, contributing to the problem. One way to combat climate change is to reduce our carbon emissions. Surprisingly, agriculture is responsible for up to 30% of carbon emissions, but there are farming practices that can actually sequester carbon and reduce emissions. The challenge is how to incentivize and verify these practices to create a market for sustainable agriculture. To address this issue, we created Green Proof, a blockchain-based certification platform. With Green Proof, certifying organizations can issue certificates to farmers who use sustainable farming practices. These certificates are then passed on to manufacturers who can use them to create products with a unique identifier that verifies the product's sustainable origins. This system provides an incentive for farmers to adopt sustainable practices and creates a market for sustainable products that benefit the environment.
What it does π€
- Generate certificates supported by the blockchain
- Transfer certificates
- "Partition" and produce products out of certificates
How we built it π
First and foremost, it is Crafted with π.
- Blockchain used: Hedera
- Frontend: React, TailwindCSS, Hedera SDK
- Smart Contract written in Solidity
- Backend service created with Elixir and Phoenix
Challenges We ran into π§±
There were lots of challenges on our way. First, because we are all online and spread around the globe, it was somewhat difficult for us to be communicating during the process. We also spent a great deal of time discussing ideas for the project.
Research π
Research is the key to empathizing with users: we found our specific user group early and that paves the way for our whole project. Here are few of the resources that were helpful to us β
White, C. (2020). Why regenerative agriculture?. American Journal of Economics and Sociology, 79(3), 799-812.

CREDITS
- Design Resources : Tailwind Components
What we learned π
Using Hedera SDK and Blockchain
What's next for SheerAI π
- Moving forward and making all the storage system decentralized
- Refractor our code
- Doing many, many testing.
- Write parsing function that takes transcation hash of a product and shows state change in human readable way
Overall, we hope that one day this project can be widely used globally to help tackle climate change and popularize sustainability
