Version 0.7.8 – Location Updates

Includes updated location and meta fields for visits based on recent edits in BWG GUI v3 (Cardoso, Elverde, Saba, Sonadora, etc.).

0.7.7

This data release contains edited data from the BWG database, but adds no new code to the data-processing workflow. Two groups of data have been edited:

  • Quintana Roo detritus data has been edited to the correct units, thanks to Regis!
  • The Latitude and Longitude of several visits has been corrected, thanks to Melissa!

v0.7.6

0.7.5

This release addresses a three issues with the dataset. First, it adds in the estimated maximum volume. this results in a few new columns:

  • max_water_combined: the most complete water information, containing both observations and estimates
  • max_water_estimated: a column with two levels -- observed, or estimated. If we do not have max_water at all, the value of this column is still observed.
  • predicted_water and max_water_from_24_volume: these two columns hold water values estimated from a regression on supplementary data (French Guiana only) and regressions within the dataset.

We also have now the CPI values for Platyhelmenthes
Visit 511 (Cardoso open restinga) is now indicated as 1 in the category open.canopy

v0.7.0

0.7.0

This data version includes new information about a synonymous species from Argentina. Two species previously thought to be distinct (one Tabanid and one Stratiomyid) have been found to be the same Hermetia sp.

This highlights the need to consider how synonymous species are dealt with in the database. In theory, observations of animals that we now know to be the 'same' should be added together. This release performs as little merging as possible -- checking only within a bromeliad. Instead, it provides a list of synonymous_names: the names of taxa which we know are covered by more than one bwg_name. These are all species names, with the exception of Hermetia sp. If you want to do an analysis at the level of species (as opposed to, e.g., functional groups), then you should use this table to combine observations which are from the same species.

please note that the abundance_matrix, which is the last element in the list in the release, has as column names the union of bwg_name and database_id. Thus it represents, not species but something like 'maximum morphospecies within dataset'. This will stay in for backwards compatibility, but perhaps should be used and interpreted with caution.

0.6.5

Corrects errors caused by beetles of the family Sphaeridiinae, which are unique in being common aquatics at both life stages.

Big thanks to @lmguzman and @vanderleidebastiani , who identified this problem!

I have also added back in the taxonomy and the canonical traits (that is, |functional_group |predation |realm |micro_macro |) for all taxa.

0.6.0

We are pleased to announce a new version of the database, featuring a new and updated version of the trait table.

This was made possible by hard work from @cereghino and @dsrivast !

v0.5.5

0.5.5
This release adds two big changes:

  • the dataset QuintanaRoo from Mexico (thanks to @cereghino !)
  • corrected bromeliad species names (thanks @lmguzman !)

v0.5.3

0.5.3 This release contains both new data and corrections to traits:

  • Adding Paula's data for Cardoso 2011 open restinga
  • Regis corrected MD, BF traits
  • Dates corrected for RioBlance2012 & 2014 and Pitilla 2002
  • Corrected lat/long

0.5.1 Contains corrections for the following things:

  • brm changed to bromeliad_id
  • latest open.canopy variable
  • Corrects error in the LasGamas datasets which had a Hydrophilid labelled as a Dytiscid.
