zsh fix has been tested and works, other are trivial fixes, so merging in for v1.7.0 |

(I can do it, but I always arrive one month late, so if it is cheap to do...)

Sorry, I really want to land this stuff without having to retest things over and over. Issue the PR, and it'll get in for v1.8.
One month isn't that long, and things of all the goodies that we'll have by then! ;-)
