🍊 Oppressor Suppressor

This is a browser extension that aims to make news outlets easier on the mind when reading by replacing certain names that can trigger negative emotions with their goofy-though-accurate counterparts in webpages.

Features

The extension can be disabled by clicking on the extension icon in the browser. When disabling the extension, the current tab in the browser will be automatically reloaded.

Installation

Chrome / Edge / Opera / Brave

  1. Download the latest release or clone/download this repository to your local machine and unzip it.
  2. Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/ (or edge://extensions/ or opera://extensions/ or brave://extensions).
  3. Enable "Developer mode" (toggle in the top-right corner).
  4. Click "Load unpacked" and select the folder containing the extension files.

Firefox

  1. Download the latest release or clone/download this repository to your local machine and unzip it.
  2. Open Firefox and go to about:debugging.
  3. Click "This Firefox" in the sidebar.
  4. Click "Load Temporary Add-on" and select the manifest.json file from the extension folder.

Customization

  • To add more words to replace, update the replacements object in content.js.
