I think this is the wrong approach. The description is a translatable string and should be in the messages file. The author could just be an optional field in Map. |

Currently, map creators can't save the author and a brief description of their maps as mentioned in the SourceForge forum thread https://sourceforge.net/p/freecol/improvement-requests/232/.
I created a little dialog that saves this information and then saves it in the XML document using a separate XML element. Here is a preview:
