Bio

Hello! I am Samuel from Finland
I AM NOW @samuel !!

I am a #FOSS free and open source software advocate (as well as contributor). Full-time student. :)

I am a world citizen, I travel to a lot of different places and I have lived also (albeit temporarily) in different places like in Atlanta, GA (around 6mo) in the US and twice in Singapore (1 year each, total: ~2 years).

I will also post about my "job" where I occasionally work for my local university teaching programming and other technology related skills for immigrant students in Finland.

These Gen Alpha's were handed everything on a silver platter.
Back in my day we used to have to plagiarize from Wikipedia, you know actually about Wikipedia teachers always said to avoid and I always said "no ma'am, the wiki pedia is the most trusted source" yes thats right, it's crowdsourced, and crowdsourcing is crowdsourcing you know, it's great actually.
You know, I am very good at this plagiarism thing, have you heard of it, like I guess it's not a thing the youngins do very much, but back in my day we had to actually find a source and copy and then paste it, it was a whole thing, THINKING goes into that!
Now all these youngins know is to write a prompt and copy it into whatever google cloud based software they need. NO CRITICAL THOUGHT AT ALL. I am disappointed in OUR GREAT NATION'S youths, don't even know how to plagiarize things correctly anymore, now it's all just slopped.

(decided to try to write this a little like one of the current president of united states's speeches, so try re-reading it to see if it sounds like one of those, can give me feedback to improve on the imitation)

I have discovered I am so lazy, that I somehow have become semi-productive at one thing.

I have this project that I work on, for a certain community and I have this really long list of things in a todo list.

Everyday I make sure I get atleast 1 or 2 commits in.

What has happened is that on many days I do like way more than 1 or 2 commits, but like 8 or something, and that a feature I thought would take so much longer, is actually finished.

Migrated by Archlinux laptop server to Rocky linux.
Turbulent to say the least.

Rockylinux does not have Docker in their repos, they have podman.
So I was like "sure I was thinking of trying out podman", then I realize that podman-compose can only order when using depends_on, and that holy shit are some images broken when you're going rootless.

So I guess I might make my own docker images for sonarr,radar... and the like, rootless.

:| I don't understand what the reason for not including Docker in the Rocky repos is, I had to add the docker-ce rhel 9 repo onto my rocky 10 installation.

Welp, if anyone wants to help a bit with podmanifying my media server configuration, lmk and I'll open up the codeberg repo.

NEVER let me receive a call again.
>Get a call in class
>Answer it
>Hear someone speaking (human)
>Leave the classroom (teacher instructed me to)
>"Who did you want to call?"
>(I can't hear the person clearly from the othe end)
>"Who did you want to call?"
>I still can't hear them very clearly but I can assume they did not intend to reach me, she's mentioning something about that she talked to someone before
>"Who did you want to call?"
>"I'm sorry, who is this?"
>"Well I'm a student"
>"Ah so then I the wrong number"
>"So it seems"
>"Seems like a typical wrong number situation"
>"Yes"
>"I'm guessing you don't want to buy lemonades"
>"No"
>Call ends

r/Finland be like "Finland's minister of social security: Niqab's and burkas don't belong in schools"

Me: "But that's religious discrimination"

Calling FOSS developers of any size projects. #opensource #opensourceproject #foss

How do you feel about how foss maintainers are compensated?
In your foss project are you well compensated?
Do you feel "exploited" for your work (by companies, or individuals)?
Do you work part-time or full-time on a foss project? (important for the next question)
Do you receive enough financial compensation to survive on?

Basically I am working on a blog post where I want to write about the current financial situation of the FOSS community, many criticize FOSS for it being exploitative in which companies take FOSS work and don't give any financial compensation to the maintainer, or how maintainers are overworked or work too much without receiving enough financial aid to sustain themselves.

So any type of comment would really help. You can reply here, reply privately or message me on matrix (samuelhautamaki:envs.net) or on email ([email protected]).

Long time no post. Just recently, my old phone "bricked". So I got this new Google Pixel 9A, it's a decent phone (didn't graphene it) no complaints so far except that the default Pixel Launcher has a stupid Google search bar at the bottom of the home screen which can't be disabled, and always opens chrome even though when I set up my phone I selected Firefox.

Well, let's just say I only lasted like a week or two before folding and installing Instagram and Mastodon (Moshidon).
