  • I’m imagining the last person alive to be eligible to smoke going on a grand journey to the last place selling the last pack of smokes in the country. I think this law is so ass backwards and does nothing about addressing people’s concerns including the comments made in here.

Healthcare concern? Tax it, a single use isn’t going to put a strain on the healthcare system. Make sure lifetime smokers have paid in more than their fair share.

Age limit? What’s the current UK view on alcohol? You can’t just cherry-pick drugs and regulations if you’re trying to make sense.

Vape and smoke indistinguishable? Sure, but lets add additional tax onto ANYTHING that creates pollutants. It being illegal in cars is kinda ironic and hilarious. Especially from those living near industrial sites with bad water and smog effects, has the government made sure those companies are paying their fair share or restricting what they release because of the children?

I’m all for people’s opinions and ideas shared, I just don’t like governments that target civilian freedoms more than corporate profits when they’ve had the chance for the past hundred years. Let the people decide, local jurisdictions banning areas and businesses opting out are completely fine with me. Playing this weird game of “sorry you were born a day too late to be eligible” is weird. Ban it all or not, let the cards lay. Too much wiggle room/cost for enforcement for this to be anything useful and will probably just be thrown out at a later date wasting everyone’s time.

  • So couple of points of confusion I’m seeing in this picture and comments below,

    1. a wall stud (2x4) is 1-1/2 inch wide, most builders use the cheaper sheetrock which is 3/8inch. A post-it is about 3 inches meaning those first marks/holes are at about 2 inches which is just barely past the window stud (1-7/8inch). Looks like you successfully found the next stud though. Fyi, those drywall fasteners that expand are more than enough to hold a curtain/rod and would probably fit into those previous holes if you want to move everything.

    2. A curtain being aesthetically pleasing is it’s 2nd job. Historically, it’s primary reason for existence is temperature regulation. A curtain should tuck against the wall on the sides and reach all the way to the floor to stop cold air from escaping. You can have the best of both worlds with a cheaper “to the wall” rod underneath your decorative setup (like 3$).

    3. You should be technically measuring, then purchasing the curtain for it’s intended length dependent on the style you want (from floor to ceiling is considered more “grand”). It’s not mandatory though as you can adjust the rod height and also the curtain length with simple hemming like with “iron-on stitching”.

  • I dislike that a lot of the games are tied to needing to have the steam client open, also the steam client is a non-controllable aspect on my computer that I own. I can modify (with extensions and browsers) any experience I have online…except steam. I also don’t like “leasing” games as that’s all they do.

Last note is just I dislike putting any faith into a company to “do good” or to remain with their status quo. Companies are not “good”, they are a service provider and shouldn’t be anthropomorphized as such for being “good guys” or a company that "Cares"tm. The very fact that people are defending it by being sticklers of true definitions of a “monopoly” but hand-wave away the affects it has on the industry makes me concerned it will only become a bigger problem later on.

Is everyone lost in the sauce in these comments? The meme is about holding fascists accountable for things like authoritarian actions, not passing milquetoast policies to capitulate to their voting base when they don’t follow through on 90% of what their campaign promises were.

Talking Epstein action, state surveillance overreach, actual war crimes and unconstitutional breaches that are handwaved away or not addressed (usually strengthened or re-instituted during “progressive” times). This has been going on since the civil war, “Let’s move on and focus on the future, not hold people to standards or accountability (or the actual fucking law)”. I predict maybe 2-3 high profile cases during the next presidential term that will try to go after someone but will just be a drop in the bucket compared to what people are getting away with.

  • If you have space outside, plant native trees/vines/bushes that will help shade the building from the sun if you’re getting direct sunlight. You can just do clippings from wild growing plants for free.

timing of the windows opening and closing is key. Also tracking temperature helps, just a crappy thermometer (one indoors and one outside not in sunlight) will let you know when it’s time to open or close up.

Concrete/bricks work both ways as a thermal mass, if you can get them cool and covered from the sun it will help cool your area (think of cold concrete floors, I have an inner brick wall that an extension was built out on and it stays coolish). Same with water, most have experienced a cold water pool/pond on a hot day, big blocks of frozen ice can do the trick if you stick to freezing at night.

    Free stuff:

    • No/less electronics during the day (tvs/chargers/computer), it all adds to the heat
    • no cooking during day, cold cuts/food only till night
    • Take a nap during the hottest part if possible, or just sleep in daytime and move about at night on off days (something about waking up after a nap makes it seem less overbearing)
    • do maintenance on your fans, take them apart and clean/grease anything that needs it (will need to clean more often if you lubricate due to dust build up causing gunk)

Black-out curtains are great to stop light, but if it’s entering the window already it’s just heating up that one spot so you’re still technically getting the thermal radiation. For that fix you would want reflective window covers, even foil would technically help slapped to the window (it’s the only time those reflective insulation boards actually do anything with infrared). Foil with something behind it to insulate, like literally anything (cardboard wrapped in plastic to air seal can even do it), then you can take down your contraption at night to let air through to cool.

Insulating and air sealing. Alternatively, air flow in any spots building more heat than the outside temp (like an attic or upstairs area). If it’s a family owned place it’s easier, renting you might have to address concerns with landlord.

Currently temps in my area are getting about 95f(35c) daytime and 65f(18c) to 60f(15c) at night. I can usually get my house down to 68ish(20c) before the sun comes up. Windows in a bottom floor with fans pointing in, any windows upstairs with fans blowing out (hot air rises, it’s the same technique for american colonial/victorian houses with dormers emulating ancient style architecture for passive cooling). If it’s single story just be aware of wind direction if you’re using the fan method and point some in where the wind is blowing and pointing out at the opposite side. My house will at max hit about 80f(26c) but by then it’s time to open the windows because the sun has set.

At some point, once true-true summer hits, the nights will be about 80f(26c) and over 100f(38cish) during the day. At that point regulating your body and getting used to the temps is key and an A/C or sometype of ground thermal air flow is the only way you’re going to make anything cool. If you’re using A/C just seal the crap out of your windows with plastic and/or insulation (remember condensation like an ice cup though will cause moisture and mold/mildew growth on the exterior if not done properly). Pick a room that keeps the coldest and put whatever you can on the walls and windows (even a quilt on the walls will help insulate some). Seal up as much as possible and hide from the heat.

My issue is the categorization which in turn paints a picture on a lot of OSes. Call it a Pop OS challenge, or debian challenge, etc. In people’s minds there is windows, ios, and everything else is “linux”. Just leaves a bad taste. Just like in your comment you’re broadly painting “linux” issues as if windows or such doesn’t also run into problems at times (especially with windows updates lately).

  • Wow that’s some crazy ass shit actually.

    Interview:

“I don’t talk about it that often because I’m just an actor. When I hear actors and celebrities talking about a cause or whatever it may be, they are just an actor. I don’t know why all of a sudden their opinion matters so much. So I’m doing what I do best, I’m an actor and enjoying my life. But me personally, I love politics. I love this country and I want to contribute in any way possible.”

So he doesn’t like his co-workers speaking up because they’re left leaning, but it’s perfectly ok for him to do it because he’s right-wing.

Muniz also revealed that he fancies himself a bit of an amateur political pundit due to the copious amount of time he spends watching Fox News and reading everything he can find. He said his interest in politics sprang up out of boredom when he moved to Arizona.

“I didn’t grow up in a family that leaned one way or the other. I started reading everything I could and to try to learn as much as I could. I ended up where I am based on what I thought just made sense, what I believed in,” he said.

It’s like if JK Rowling and Ben Shapiro raised a kid.

    From Joe,

“Happy Birthday to Malcolm in the Middle star actor, Frankie Muniz! I became a fan of Frankie when he visited me at my Sheriff’s office to show support,” Arpaio posted on X, almost a week after Muniz’s birthday.

Who tf goes to a Sheriff’s office for a friendly visit? Probably Muniz starts running for some kind of office in Arizona soon.
