  • I’ve found that most people understand that signing up for an email service like Gmail allows them to communicate with people who aren’t on Gmail. Tie that in to explaining federation.

“Mastodon is kind of the same idea, but for social media.”

Obviously the technical details are different, but it helps explain federation at a very high level. Then you can talk about why that’s valuable for longevity of a system.

Example: the decline of Yahoo and AOL as email providers didn’t end email as a technology because email doesn’t depend on those companies existing to function.

  • What did he bring?

He was part of this convoy. Read the FAQ.

He partied hard and used lots of electricity for his amusement

The free concert that was put on for Cubans and also included Cuban musicians? Yeah, what a travesty that he and other entertainers provided some joy for people ravaged by Trump’s foreign policy.

    while Cuba is lacking oil.

Your passive framing here icing on the cake. Cuba is “lacking oil” because of the USA’s blockade. Cuba is suffering because of decades of economic warfare waged by the USA. If you actually cared about the Cuban people, you would support Hasan raising awareness about it. But you’re so caught up in streamer/podcaster drama that you’ve lost the plot.

  • Israel is a nazi project from the start.

My understanding is that Israel (the colony) predates Nazism and was a British project.

However, It doesn’t seem far fetched to say that it was hijacked by Nazis since the goals of Zionists and Nazis aligned (Zionists wanted a Jewish state and Nazis wanted Jews in a concentrated area outside of Europe). That isn’t to say that Zionism was ever a good ideology (it’s bad), just one that didn’t originate with the Nazis.

Don’t take this as a challenge. I’d actually love to hear more about your thoughts on how it originated as a Nazi project. I’m relatively new to the subject of Israel. The similarities between Nazism, Apartheid South Africa, Jim Crow America and Israel are striking to me.

  • I love Fromsoft games, but I’ve always thought that people kind of have horse blinders on when evaluating them as a whole.

What I think sets them apart:

    • the art
    • the setting and vibe
    • melee combat controls

What I think they severely lack:

    • sometimes it feels like I have to google nearly everything in these games because they never explain mechanics/items/quests properly. Most people would argue that’s part of the charm, but I don’t think it’s executed well at all.
    • Basic combat is generally very fluid, but there are things that are just straight trash, such as ranged weapons. I just won’t use those weapons for anything other than pulling mobs away from others
    • the story is just so abstract sometimes that I rarely know etc is going on
    • co-op multiplayer sucks. It really says something when a player-created mod works better than a system that’s been in multiple games

  • Signal is the only way I’ve been able to get my friends and family onto an E2E messaging app. Before this, they were all using SMS and WhatsApp. Signal is how we survived ICE in Minneapolis and organized to stop a bunch of jackbooted fascists from kidnapping all of our neighbors and deporting them to unknown countries. I have a lot of respect for the folks at Signal as a result.

I get that you all are on better platforms or whatever, but I don’t appreciate the dismissive shit that I’m seeing in these replies. Especially when it’s about one of the first privacy-oriented apps that normies get started with. You have some information about Signal that shows it’s shitty or a honeypot? Great, then post it. I’d genuinely love to see it (and not in a “post it so I can argue with you like an annoying redditor” kinda way). But this shit about high salaries at a non profit is not convincing to me and none of your replies here are doing your cause any service.
