My experience: I started hosting some other services on a hetzner VPS, and then also threw in Nextcloud later. Nextcloud was a bit annoying to set up, but mostly because I really wanted to use rootless podman. I imagine a more official way would be easier. It works like a charm now. I have only two users, so mileage may vary.

Most of my data is outside of Nextcloud and it’s photos and videos, so I ran out of internal storage on the VPS quickly. I’m using a Hetzner storage box now (though they did just increase the price of those…).

I use the hetzner backup as local. The offsite one is a scaleway s3 via restic, I wanted it to be completely unrelated, just in case Hetzner decide to terminate my account or something.

Sounds like a peaceful life to me.

Same. At some point I barely saw any differences anymore. I was so surprised to see the font I thought I liked actually being the winner.

In Schweden ist die Begleitperson diejenige die haftet. Das ist ja die Person mit der Fahrerlaubnis. Dann überlegt man es sich halt dreimal, ob das Schülerx denn schon reif genug ist, und was man so für Ratschläge gibt.

Das war glaube ich keine Anforderung als ich das hier vor ein paar Jahren in Schweden gemacht habe.

Es war schon etwas gruselig manchmal. Aber man braucht halt ein Schild, am besten auf dem Dach. Dann wissen alle drumrum, dass man lieber etwas vorsichtig ist.

Uns ist nichts passiert. Da das Ziel hier in Schweden 0 Todesfälle im Verkehr ist, würde es dieses Programm gar nicht geben, wenn es wirklich gefährlich wäre. Aber dementsprechend ist hier halt auch 40 in der Stadt und nicht 50. Oftmals sogar nur 30. Mehr Kreisverkehre.

Also bis auf dass die irgendwie das mit dem Blinken nicht hinbekommen finde ich es eigentlich ganz entspannt hier in Schweden. Es gibt natürlich Idioten, aber die gibt es überall.

Die Denkweise ist dass die Angestellten alle bescheißen und ja eigentlich gar nicht so richtig krank sind. Sollen die mal arbeiten.

Hier in Schweden wird das so gemacht. Katastrophe. Lustigerweise gab es dann eine Ausnahme während Corona damit sich die Kranken nicht ins Büro schleppen. Mit anderen Worten: sie haben eingesehen, dass sich die Leute mit der Regelung krank ins Büro schleppen und alle anstecken.

Kriegst du einen Abstrurzbericht? Müsste irgendwo in dem Ordner in der Nähe der Speicherstände landen. Du bist auf Linux unterwegs, ne? Welches so?

Ich kann möglicherweise ein bisschen helfen. Selber nicht auf Linux, aber ich hab an dem Ding mal programmiert. Und kenne auch noch Leute die ich mal anhauen könnte. Die haben aber sicherlich grad Urlaub, wird also vielleicht ein bisschen dauern.

Braucht aber Absturzberichte. Wenn ich mich recht entsinne war die Infrastruktur zur Analyse von Abstürzen auf Linux eher… mangelhaft bis nicht vorhanden. Aber man kann ja hoffen.

I feel like ”adhering to GDPR and not sharing personal information of citizens with actors outside the EU” would be a reasonable requirement. But I’m not lobbied by big tech so what do I know.
