Amazon delivers, just not same-day. I’ve lived north of 55’ my whole life, and usually it takes 3-5 days.
The government. That’s where taxes go. You can, in turn, look up your country’s budget breakdown to see where it goes from there.

Technology@lemmy.world•“It Wouldn’t Be Surprising If, in Two Years’ Time, There Was a Film Made Completely Through AI”: Says Hayao Miyazaki’s Own SonEnglish
45·1 year agoPassing reminder that Goro Miyazaki is an architect who never wanted to make movies. He was brought on as an architecture advisor, and the studio kept pushing him to take more and more responsibility because he’s his father’s son, and his father encouraged it. The movie sucks because he’s not a director and he didn’t want to make it.
(Side note: I actually rather like Tales from Earthsea, so when I say it sucks I’m referring to general public reception and not my own opinion.)

10·1 year agoI live on the west coast, where we have a ton of filipino-canadians, and they drink it like, well, like it’s water. There’s almost as many coconut water cans as bottled water bottles in public recycling bins. Every grocery stocks it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the minimum number of words needed to communicateEnglish
7·1 year agoTo be fair though, speaking as a fan of toki pona, it’s important to point out that it is far from a list of essential words, it’s intentionally not designed to be able to communicate a majority of essential concepts clearly. It’s designed to be able to communicate simple, positive concepts easily, but to require thought and ambiguity to communicate negative or complex concepts. It’s literally meant to make you have to think more positively.
“Horde” is orcs. “Hoard” is dragons.

Nope! It just inexplicably sucks
I like how your pronouns are “equipped”. Got you a pocket full of pronouns. DOn’t you drop them, or nobody will be allowed to talk about you!
You’re joking, right? Pre-2012, it was one of the most visited sites on the internet and in the top 20 gaming sites. They weren’t some no-name blog. Then after they hired Totilo, their shitty pop-tabloid reporting became so infamous even Forbes had articles about it, well before gamergate was ever a thing. This all used to be sourced info on the wiki page.

121·2 years agoNah, Kotaku had a shit reputation for years before gamergate got shat into existence. Their reporting was sloppy and often wrong, most of them sucked at the games they were reviewing, they spammed out vapid clickbait articles about nothing to farm ad rev. The only reason people respect them now is because they were positioned opposite gamergate, as if two things can’t both suck.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Could a policy Justin Trudeau rejected give the Liberals the bump they need?English
501·2 years agoTL;DR they think he should look at electoral reform again
A huge wedge of the liberal voter base were disenfranchised when Trudeau promised electoral reform, practically guaranteed it, and then just announced they weren’t going to do it but don’t worry here’s legal weed. Many of them were youth voting for the first time, and that betrayal set the tone. If he set it in motion before the election, is it possible they’d recapture at least some of that base? Sure. Would I vote for him? Not a chance.

Games@sh.itjust.works•AMD CEO Lisa Su reminisces about designing the PS3's infamous Cell processor during her time at IBMEnglish
0·2 years agoSetting aside that the industry professionals definitely count it as current gen for sales metrics, that’s fuckin, irrelevant when the statement is about all three of last gen, current gen, and next gen. Whichever one you want to call the Switch part of, it’s the best selling console of that generation, so the statement that AMD sold chips the best selling console of that generation is false. Unless you want to make the claim the Switch is from 2006, they are incorrect.

31·2 years agoHow can the switch be a different console from last gen, current gen, and next gen? Those are literally the only generations it could be considered part of.
