While I’m not a fan of the leather implementation, I have to both agree that it’s a placement improvement in terms of ergonomics, and it does look pretty cool. I think it might wear out faster, being exposed to the gripping area of your palm, though. I’d expect it to be difficult to wash your hands or handle dirty/sharp items.

9·1 month agoI keep buying motorolas because they’re rugged as fuck. I get a new one every 3-5 years. They’re all the same-ish these days, and rarely come with any sort of incentive or discount, so it doesn’t make sense to refesh too often. I try to get my money’s worth from my devices.
Can’t tell you how many samsungs my kids have broken, but both of their motos still work.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that desperately needs to be standardized?English
4·1 month agoEvery single one of my machines is set up to run metric so I don’t have to constantly convert 64’s and 8’s and thou’s fractional units between denominators, which is exactly why I’d rather type .0254mm than 1/1000. I absolutely cannot stand using different fractional denominators or that a foot is divided by 12, but everything else isn’t. You’ve probably used it for years and are used to it, but approaching it with a rational mind seems like unnecessary work and risk of miscalculation.
Every number I use can easily be interchanged for another unit.

321·1 month agoI really want everyone to use the metric system. Imperial is just awful to use for most design and machine purposes.

Technology@lemmy.world•ReFS is better than NTFS, but Microsoft refuses to let regular users have itEnglish
153·1 month agoThis. NTFS is still the gold standard for stability. ReFS is meant for data ops, and while it’s fairly stable, and offers a lot of advantages, it’s not perfect and can suffer greatly if used incorrectly. Until the quirks are gone, users are probably better off with NTFS for a lot of reasons.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What weird names did you give things as a kid when you didn't know the real name?English
10·2 months agoMy kids used to call the play place with all of the inflatable bounce houses “the bouncy store”.
My eldest couldn’t remember the name for bagpipes and called them “autotuned hornbags” which is one of my favorites, and I still use it.
In relation to mario kart, we had no idea what the superhorn was called, we always called in “The Honkerbanger”. Likewise we didn’t understand what the drafting sprites were in MK on the wii, it looked like the person in front of you was sweating big droplets of water. We’d say we were “getting sweat”.

4·2 months agoOn my most recent new install of gimp a few weeks back, it now has a reopen last documents feature, and I think it does now cache your last open files in the event of a crash.
I’ve been using GIMP since the mid 2000’s as a replacement for Photoshop4/5 and it has always been a great tool. I haven’t ever really had any major stability issues with it.
Why would anyone believe he would deescalate something? Why would anyone believe anything he says?

You have me laughing over here.
It’s more ergonomic for the reason that it’s an easier, more natural viewing angle that puts less strain or stress on the body to view/use it. You don’t necessarily have to agree with that, or yuck someone else’s yum. Most of your issues are preference.
Did you miss the part where I said I wasn’t a fan of the leather implementation? Because that would rule out most of those points.
Have an upvote for the effort, though!
