  • I haven’t read the article but have life experience. Tofu is the stereotypical vegetarian/vegan food in the USA. People with closed minds and a patriarchal view of masculinity tend to be strongly against eating tofu because meat eating is an indicator of masculinity to them. Willingness to consider tofu as an acceptable food then correlates to willingness to not blindly embrace the patriarchal views. (Edit for wording)

  • A small script to append some characters to a string based on whether the letters in the file name were capitalized. Super simple, but I had a data migration project to a system that doesn’t recognize case and people before me coded information into case. It is essentially tutorial level but real life application. Maybe you have something similar? Practical and working before anything complex.

I totally agree. Both of them have places where you can art (make stuff up) and both have places where you have to science (follow an established plan). My perspective is that whatever you practice more gets easier/intuitive. Most people cook more than they bake, so don’t realize that they climbed over that need for a recipe while cooking before they knew it. If they made bread every night for a couple of months, they would start improvising on that too.

  • A little, the stretching house plant demonstrates how plants can sense the direction light is coming from. They can also sense qualities of light. They can tell if light is filtered through other leaves, for instance. I would speculate that refected light also has a unique color (wavelength) distribution that a plant could sense and respond to

  • I’ll save the nonsense response you would’ve gotten from the person who says “something like 7%” without a source.

The credible studies say that simply cutting meat can cause some deficiencies like iron and b12 that you have to be mindful of. If not, there are negative reproductions on things like cognitive ability.

People who can’t fathom vegetarianism read that and think “vegetarians brains shrink” instead of “vegetarians know this and adjust their diet to maximize the missing stuff (or take supplements)”
