DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•How do you use services which only allows google login?
12·9 days agoAlternative To was invaluable when I degoogled, not perfect though as it still lists some apps that invade and track even when you select the Privacy focused option in the search options, but it DOES give you somewhere to start from with all the info you need.
I’m currently running lineage on my phone, tablet and now working on a lineage streaming box to replace firestick. Good luck!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Super slow old Samsung laptop, needs Light weight distro, for SNES games mebbe?
3·23 days agoThis is currently running slowly but functionally on Linux mint. I just want to free up some stuff with something a tad lighter. What SNES emulators are worth looking into?

I’m leaning towards Option 2. With my limited knowledge, Option 1 doesn’t seem like enough and Option 3 seems like too much. I’m getting many different thoughts and opinions from alot of places, I am but a simpleton, trying to stop my TV from spying on me. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Update: Option 1 it is! Cheap enough that I can screw it up.

2·1 month agoOooh! Thankyou! It’s android so theoretically it should be able to get Smart tube. This is an advanced user guide but it certainly will help when I get to this point.
I’m still at the “So, Pi is a green circuit board?” part of my learning.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a gender neutral honorific for non-binary folk?
2·1 month agoIn Dragon Age, Serah and Messere and the gender neutral terms, which i alway thought went nicely with "Ladies & Gentlemen, Serahs & Messeres!” However Serah is for those equal or lower in status and Messere is higher status. Choose wisely.
Learned how adding Repos to F-Droid works, so this was simple (once I sussed it out 😅 Ah being a beginner). Thanks!
Yes, I was getting stumped at the QR code on the MicroG github downloads page, turns out you can just add that through F-droid. that’s why I needed the tutorial. CSP is working now with Lineage 23 and I’m still testing it’s abilities.
How would one go about doing this? I can’t quite figure that out via the Git hub page. (I’m still in the “needs detailed instructions” zone)
Edit: I figured it out, there’s a bloody tutorial 😅
Edit2: for clarity, A tutorial to use the MicroG QR code to add repo using F-droid.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•An as Open Source as Possible Pixel 8 ProEnglish
6·2 months agoAw cool! Glad you wanted to share!
I noticed there’s some thoughts that maybe these types of posts don’t have a place in the Linux phones. I’m new to Lemmy and found help here and wanted to thank the community. Changing over was work and I’m proud of myself, but recognize those who chimed in when I needed it.
So I propose the positive aspect of a show-your-home-screen post.
They can help start a discussion for those of who are curious about the process of running a non mainstream OS. If you are a degoogler, it’s important to know what life without Gapps is like. It may provide folks with feedback on better app options as well if they are struggling. Switching over is a process with inherent risk so it can be really scary and there are few places that have real human feedback.
Anyhow, my newb two cents. Is my OS proper Linux? I don’t know, I’m new, looking for help, and it brought me here.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•My Lineage OS on an old Google PixelEnglish
5·2 months agoMy phone is as Degoogled as I could get it with Lineage, & I don’t use any banking apps on mobile, so I can’t give too much info there. For 2 factor Auth Apps, I use the Proton one and
it works a treat!Edit: Blerg!!! I have been having issues with the Proton Authenticator, You need Gapps or MicroG to get it to work properly.
Edit 2: Aegis works

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•turn off Scrolling text on Lineage osEnglish
2·2 months agoNo doubt, I found a good balance between display and text size and while some of the longer text will still scroll, it’s not everything scrolling at once.

I updated the main post with the solution! I have my 2 little apps and paired a pro controller and now it all seems to be working!
