first of all, i’m sorry if i created the impression that all linguists were female (and the other attributes i mentioned). rather i was trying to say that an overwhelming majority of the people starting linguistics at my uni carried at least some of the attributes i mentioned. (a very unscientific observation over the last five years)
please elaborate on what is not the case.
you mention a bachelor thesis, but not the result. can you give a quick summary of what she found?
that’s a very interesting point of view i didn’t consider yet. thanks!
it is very interesting indeed, but then again most people i’ve seen studying linguistics are some mix of the following: female, queer, alternative, left, feminist. which means that for most the manosphere and its hostile language is pure horror.
i absolutely despise the fact that pretty normal people have started the hatred nazi misogyny speak and talk about …maxxing and being …pilled.

6·8 days agono, he’s right in some way. claude desktop is spyware, but it only spies through chromium based browsers, so if you don’t use chrome, you’re safe … for now. until they install their backdoor in safari/ firefox based browsers too

9·8 days agowhile it can, there probably is some arch user who runs the program too and notices it suddenly takes 2ms longer to do something thusly finding the xz attack.

as someone who has a similar setup of sudo needing reauth after a while, i can tell you that it’s really no issue. keep in mind it only prompts you for a password when using sudo, meaning it prompts you when you run sudo su, and then su is just running. for as long as su keeps running, you don’t need to rerun sudo su, meaning you don’t need to reauthenticate.
in other words. the reauthentication requirement will never kill any running processes. it just requires a password when running sudo.
edit: also, i would recommend
sudo su -instead, because it makes sure you get the env vars that root uses. runningsudo suhas lead to lots of head scratching personally. (especially on debian where /sbin binaries are not in the path when using su without the dash)
i’m running xattr -c all day every day to get my foss goodness running

1·13 days agoalso i think i’ve heard something about apple paying for google ai stuff, but im not entirely sure.
i was not advocating for this UP phone in any way and am sorry if it seemed that way. my next phone will indeed be running on GrapheneOS.
I was just trying to point out that using third party vpn infrastructure can make sense, even though i wouldn’t trust the vpn of UP in any way. trust is a difficult thing, but as of right now i’m liking mullvad.
tbf, i do have some trust in mullvad. and if i own the server, people might know its me because its my server. (as in, the only one using it and possibly some tethers to my name through accounts and payments)

12·13 days agoyes, but
- installing it can be not so straightforward. this is a good resource for guidance/troubleshooting
- the free version is limited in the codecs it can process (licensing issues some say, but kdenlive can work with them, so…). you can look up the supported codecs rather easily, but being unable to use h264, h265, and aac can be a pain in the butt.

you’re very right! i’ll submit a bug report if i keep having weird issues.
thank you for your kindness and have a good time :D
well, i certainly had that issue you’re mentioning with no call button showing up, but i made a separate group chat (since i was planning on using this for chill chats whilst gaming with more than one person). in that group chat i can click the call button, but it’ll just crash on me. mby movim doesn’t like firefox and mby it doesn’t like linux. dunno, but i wont give up on it yet
i’ll need to keep fiddling with movim, as it still won’t let me have voice or video calls. the movim.eu account does however allow me to take good calls via dino, so that’s something.
i love codeberg, though i haven’t had a chance to test the collaboration features all that much

3·1 month agoi also felt like movim would be themost fitting/ feature complete and easy (just create an account and go), but for some reason i just cannot get calls to work. i’m probably doing something wrong, but considering that i’m a serial chat app tester, i expected to be able to troubleshoot it… eventually, i managed to take the movie.eu account and call via dino and monal, but that’s not as feature complete as movim. do you have any recommendations for using movim for calls?

i’m sorry i can’t help, i’m just curious why OBS doesn’t seem to be the best option here?
