  • Why specifically boats? Are you trying to make money with this endeavour? Is there a specific type of boat you are looking to be on? If not maybe it would be worth going on Crewbay and looking for an experienced captain who is just looking for somebody to help with tasks along the way for a single leg in exchange for food. Start to build references and miles by doing this a few times, then the more you do it, the more you will find people willing to take you on board for longer periods of time and potentially pay you (pay would be more likely if you crew on the larger motor yachts).

  • Yep our travel is very much governed by the seasons, as well as whatever life throws at us in between. They are saying it is possibly going to be a very strong El Niño year too, which would tend to collapse trade winds (that we would rely on to cross the Pacific) and bring more tropical storms to the Pacific. So maybe this forced pause is a good thing.

We are on a sailboat…as may be obvious with the above paragraph! Oof, can you imagine how expensive crossing the Pacific would be right now if you were under engine power only?

  • They are really small and not easy to see if they are on their own but I did see it from the boat. It almost looked like a piece of rubbish at first. Just a little clear tube with a red dot. I guess there are different species of salp and I don’t know which one I saw. Apparently their numbers play a role in climate change. They filter carbon from the ocean and prevent it entering the atmosphere.

  • Fair enough. Each to their own I guess.

I guess it depends on what you care about. The time frames aren’t just arbitrary numbers that the manufacturers whacked on their packaging. Actives like hyalauronic acid and vitamin C break down over time. So your products could not really be doing what you are hoping for anymore. Additionally microbe introduction can lead to infection and you won’t necessarily be able to tell by looking at it.

If you have heard of Labmuffin’s Dr. Michelle Wong you will probably know that she is a great resource for science based information on skincare and beauty. Here is an interview with her about it.

Straight moisturisers are not something I will even pay attention to because I get through them so fast anyway. SPF is something I’ve always paid attention to the expiry dates for. I don’t want to mess with my eyes so I’m definitely going to be paying attention to those dates a bit more-application method will likely affect that.

The idea behind this PSA was for people like me who didn’t know how long each product was meant to be good for and wanted to know. As I said, maybe most people already knew this. I like knowing it because I was stretching out products with actives far too long that I should’ve just used up quicker.

I like the top on smaller bottles and will likely try that method on future. Thanks.
