2·1 天前Thank you. That’s more nuanced than I initially assumed, but I personally don’t think de-federating would be warranted. Not up to me though, obviously! lol

14·2 天前I usually push new users to KDE Plasma if they are most used to Windows. It helps that Plasma is also my preference and I know how to help them with it, but yeah. I think it’s most likely to make intuitive sense to Windows users.

3·2 天前That’s actually not their fault. They were using mastodon, which interacts somewhat awkwardly with Lemmy. Mastodon, as you might know, is a federated micro-blogging platform. It uses ActivityPub (mostly) to federate, as does Lemmy. Anyway, when someone using mastodon replies to a lemmy/kbin/piefed user, you’ll see that @user prepended.
It’s actually pretty cool how these varying networks interact, even if it’s a bit strange sometimes. Lemmy, mastodon, pixelfed, peertube… uh, the rest!
I’ve thought that was weird too. Decimeter’s seems like a good unit for measuring a person’s height, for instance.

1·3 天前it’s individual people who think all sorts of crazy shit, that is often downright contradictory.
Like most general purpose instances, I suppose.
When I made my account, no other instances existed and federation had not yet been implemented. I’m not hostile to Marxism-Leninism or the admins of this instance, but I’m not exactly a vocal advocate either. (Haven’t done the requisite reading, I suppose.)

Right, put a bit more simply— the people whom the government really serves are nervous about the subjects being angry at them, so this measures of surveillance and control will be pursued and implemented with relative ease.

There are some other features only in pro, like Hyper-V for instance.
