Starfleet Headquarters@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Exclusive: Jonathan Frakes Confident Star Trek Will “Resurface,” Decries ‘Starfleet Academy’ “Trolls"
3·10 days agoI’d watch 3 seasons of a Riker series.
Honestly, I’d love a short-form series on how to fix things. No drama. No intrigue. The only suffering is realizing you can’t find any of the 10mm self-sealing stembolts. I want episode titles like “Reverse your phase emitter polarity in 10 minutes,” and “5 ways to deal with a too small pattern buffer.”
Better yet, give me the Red Green Show… but replace the Canadian with Irish and swap the flannel for a Starfleet Uniform.
Your comment doesn’t have enough up votes. You’re doing the Lord’s work. Bravo.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Do you think because bacteria's are what makes farts smells bad and then we say "follow your instinks"?
7·15 days agoBecause someone has to. For the word “instinct,” from Latin instinctus “instigation, impulse, inspiration,” noun use of past participle of instinguere.
- in - “into, in, on, upon”
- stinguere - “prick, goad,” from PIE *steig- “to prick, stick, pierce”
So, in the end, the “stinct” has more to do with the word stick than it does stink.
Here’s a reference link. https://www.etymonline.com/word/instinct
edit: I know this is a shit post. I just think etymology is neat.
Where is this? I can’t find it.
This blew my mind when I took plant biology in college.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The book of Genesis is about a family dealing with very weird generational trauma
10·27 days agoYou are on the right track. There is so much more to unpack. It’s all stories of family dysfunction all the way down. Cain and Abel squaring with whose sacrifice was more acceptable. Noah cursing one of his sons/grandsons after the flood for uncovering his nakedness (read Ham had relations with Noah’s wife and fathered Canaan). Even Joseph’s sons got the old switcheroo with their blessings.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is giving only formula long term "healthy" for a baby?
17·1 month agoKid #1 was exclusively formula fed due to a milk protein allergy. Kid #2 was exclusively on the breast. They are in elementary school now, surrounded by germs. No noticable difference between how often they get sick.
In the end, a formula fed baby was far less stressful for us. No worries about feeding or pumping schedules. No worries about if they are getting enough. With infants, a calm and non-stressed parent is best.
