Aah yes unlike never authoritarian capitalist governments that totally don’t break in your house to throw you in the cold bitter streets to die because you couldn’t afford rent and made the property “unprofitable”. The West has no right lecturing anyone over human rights and liberty, they could just discard them from their dictionary if only it didn’t serve as great propaganda against their class enemies.

Depends what your threat model is, if you absolutely want no data about you whatsoever possibly leaving the device because it endangers you then Tails OS is probably the most private distro out there as others have mentioned, but it’s use case is specifically to be used for very private stuff and working through a live USB stick so that nothing remains on the device.
For the average person any distro is a huge improvement privacy wise over Windows, though Ubuntu does have ties to Amazon since it’s owned by Canonical, so if there’s any Linux distro you should avoid for privacy reasons it’s Ubuntu. It’s still incomparably private relative to Windows, but you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by choosing other alternatives, Mint is just as easy and user friendly as Ubuntu without most of the bloat and Amazon crap.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•At some point AI companies are going to have to charge real money to make a profit from their services. What do you think that amount would be and why?
71·4 days agoThere’s always two sides to software, one is the power of the hardware, and the other is the efficiency of the software. I think in this case OP means that AI will be optimized so much that it will require tiny fractions of the resources it previously needed, at least for the casual use cases of an average person asking a simple question or performing a small task.

I personally use Kitchenowl with my partner because you can share expenses between household members and set whatever percentages you want, and you can also create your recipes and shopping lists, so it’s really handy for using with roommates etc.

AI@lemmy.ml•Reese Witherspoon Doubles Down on Telling Women to Learn AI: Jobs We Hold Are ‘Three Times More Likely to Be Automated By AI’
6·10 days agoLeaving the blatant sexism and bootlicking aside, what does “learning AI” even fucking mean, everyone keeps on saying that as if it’s some kind of black magic to prompt a garbage generator. It’s exactly like saying that you’re an expert at using good keywords when googling things, it’s not as impressive a skill as you think it is.
Things are already infuriating enough in general, but the way kids become the victims of this system even when they have loving parents that would very much like to take care of them properly, it just makes me so indescribably mad
Can’t give any solution because I had the same problem pretty much where I live and I just went into web development because I gotta eat.
Though I can say that nobody stops you from doing all kinds of programming in your free time, open source also gives you a lot of interesting things to work on if you have the time to dive in and try to get your hands dirty with a project. There definitely are differences in common practices and concepts when going from web dev to other areas of computer science, but you can always find parallels and similar logic. It definitely would help to be able to properly study new things, but it’s both very time consuming and expensive, so that’s not a solution for everyone.
GTA was never an RPG, it’s an action game with shooting and driving things.
It really can’t be compared to Cyberpunk which is really focused in the RPG elements, making choices in every single sidequest out there, making your own character build with skill trees, items, body mods etc.
They’re completely different genres, which is also why so many people got infuriated when Cyberpunk came out because it was not the Next GTA™ game they were expecting, even though Cyberpunk never really marketed to be like that.
Rid yourself of the notion that democracy lies in political parties fighting each other where you get to vote on them, and you will realize that all capitalist democracies are just elaborate dictatorships disguising themselves every 4 or so years.
This “democracy” is exactly the kind of system that brought Trump to power with a useless “opposition” party that is comfortably looking away while Trump does all the dirty work that they would also like to have done if it didn’t ruin their facade.
The only real opposition can come from the people themselves.
