Technology@lemmy.world•Discomfort with modern technology shapes Gen Z's desire to live in the past
2·14 hours agoIt actually has improved a lot in the past 15 years. The problem is two fault: Enshittification/price hikes and software. Software because people still use Windows, so you don’t feel the improvements. And enshittification in multiple forms like you get less for more money, Raspberry Pi is a good example of that. You are better of with other brands today like BananaPi or just a mini-PC, if you are looking for a small device with some decent specs.
Of course now we also have AI, which made it like 30x worse for every consumer, its not just GPUs or memory, its CPU, nvme storage, … basically everything… So I really hope this AI bubble burst sooner than later now.

8·21 hours agoApt packages used to get more updates in the past. Especially ubuntu repos. Today everything just seems to rely on Debian. Which is always lacking behind.
I don’t like it either. Especially for gaming you really want the latest improvements. Or for science workloads. Or other professionals.

71·21 hours agoI don’t like uploading IDs. But recently I block almost all datacenters across the world due to ddos attack or other malicious attacks on my websites. So I don’t think it’s a bad idea to keep the web better. It’s a mess today due to all those cheap cloud providers

3·4 days agoThus far I notice it in steam for games. But that’s just an easy birthday field. Or some pop up on sites.
With trading apps or bank apps, I do have experience with these id verification software. Which isn’t great, but apparently mandatory. Anything else I will refuse to submit id’s

Who is still using Windows at this point, lol?
