  • I personally would rather avoid things using precisely electron as you mentioned (yes I know that’s not a language) or javascript as a backend programming language.

But even if you and I can’t think of a reason why would someone not want a specific programming language, who are we to deny them the right not to use things written in such language?

what i did was question about why they don’t want it

Your comments in this thread I read before posting my message seemed a bit aggressive towards the OP but I maybe I misunderstood them. My bad, I’m sorry.

  • Not everyone can read code.

From those who can, not all have the same knowledge that may be required to read this specific tool.

From those who can, not all have the time or willingness to do so.

Not wanting to use something that had AI input is just as valid as not wanting to use a specific tool, programming language, operative system, or browser, because it goes against your principles.

Software always had bugs long before vibe coding was a thing, we all understand that.

Many of us are on Lemmy because we don’t want to contribute to Reddit.

OP is not trying to convince you to not use tools that AI never contributed to, no need to try to convince him to use tools that AI may have potentially heavily contributed to.

  • I don’t have any kind of authority or special access here but “I need help”, or “it doesn’t work”, or “there’s an error” are usually useless pieces of information if not followed by details about what you need help with, what the error is, what your specs are, what were you trying to do…

The best a person with good intentions can do after your inquiry is ask “What do you need help with?” and maybe post a link to some FAQ.

Do yourself and others a favor and help others help you by giving more information about what you need help with.

Good write up. I agree with several points

And it pains me too that everything is damn electron. Can we please go back to writing stuff that doesn’t require that?

I don’t mind an old style interface. Hell, in many cases I’ll welcome it with open arms. Modern UI is not necessarily better. Both tech wise and also style wise.

  • You purchase the book written 30 years ago. It still is as it was 30 years ago. The writer is dead.

Tomorrow Amazon decides some terms don’t conform to today’s society and changes the book you already purchased, changes the text. Without the writer’s or anyone else’s permission. Maybe even if the writer is not dead, who knows.

If you had bought a device you control or the physical book, you’d have kept the original thing you purchased.

The day after Trump has a Trump moment and decides you should only read the Bible. Amazon removes the book from your device. Maybe you’re refunded, maybe not, but you have no book.

You cannot read books from open formats with it but only Kindle’s. Possibly you cannot add books to it, only read books purchased from Amazon (I think they still allow you to add books via USB but maybe tomorrow you have a “surprise firmware update”).

Disclaimer : I don’t know your device, your habits, your values, or how to jailbreak it. I’m not telling you you should jailbreak it.

I’m giving you arguments for, from now on, try to purchase things that don’t lock you in, that give you as much control as possible, and if you have no such choice, try to limit their ability to control you and / or minimize your risk of losses however you can.
