Oh 100%, thanks for taking the time to explain that, I appreciate it. I was fascinated by ss13 years ago, but the setup and player count ultimately led me to other activities. At the price of free, I will certainly give 14 a try :)

honestly it could be a lot worse
I didn’t know there was a… sequel? How does 14 compare to 13?

Europe@feddit.org•The EU says its age verification app is readyEnglish
7·9 days agoIt’s funny that you’re right, but not in the way I think you intended. Now you don’t have to hand it out because it’s persistently available and tied to everything you do online! It’s clear you’re being contrarian and aren’t making points in good faith, so this isn’t for you, but to anyone else reading I recommend checking out EFF’s post on the subject.

2·22 days agoHey that’s a great perspective, thanks for sharing. Do you ever regret your reliance on keeping your eyes on the sheet, or wish you could improvise better for example? At what point in your learning did this become an issue for you or people you know?
We’re probably approaching this from very different skill perspectives. I think your concerns, though clearly valid, only apply beyond a certain level of mastery. The question I was originally replying to was asking for ways to engage other senses while learning piano, so I assumed perhaps incorrectly that they are not past that point yet. I am a terrible piano player, but I tutor intro to music/piano, so I was giving the tips I use on my tutees. If you still struggle to read music, then I firmly hold that you should always read it while playing, but I will defer to others on tips for people beyond grasping the basics.

politics @lemmy.world•The US president just instructed the USPS to seize any ballots cast be anyone not approved by the federal government.
8·23 days agoI don’t know what I wrote that indicates I care about who it favors, but that’s not the point. Mail-in voting increases voter turnout, so making mail-in voting harder or less accessible is vote suppression. Vote suppression is bad for democracy. That’s it.
Happy April 1st!

3·23 days agoRead sheet music while playing (every time, even if you’ve memorized it), sing or hum the melody aloud, tap the rhythm out with your non-sostenuto foot.

38·23 days agoNah, it’s pure vote tampering, well-worth hating the Republican administration for. People will forget, people have busy lives, much more than people will decide to send in the ballot early and they know that. As a bonus it would no longer give people a deadline to convene around – will the ballot be delivered in two days? Three? What about a mail delay? Idk how you could see this as anything but despicable thuggery.

Thanks for taking the time to explain yourself! I wanted to jump in to potentially clear up a difference of semantics, y’all are just using different interpretations of a phrase and I think it’s worth exploring.
If I take the person you originally replied to and continue the thought on my own, I think “it shouldn’t be called music” is trying to express that “this content should be fundamentally distinct from music because it displaces artists who, as a group, are finding it increasingly hard to sustain themselves on their art alone”.
If your relationship with music stops at something to tap your foot to, then you may or may not appreciate the value music has for society in the form of things like expression, protest, criticism, unity, and faith. Every time we listen to a bot-generated song, it takes a listen away from a human artist and pushes us toward a world eventually devoid of those artistic contributions.
Whether or not it fits into the same musical category as human-generated media isn’t really the point worth talking about (it’s trained on that after all, of course it’s similar!). What we need is a way to keep it from displacing human-generated art, and I don’t think calling it music or not is enough.
