This could be a work of fiction by someone who has never doordashed before. I heard people do lie on the Internet.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I wonder what ever happened to that manhole that got shot up by a nuclear explosion.
15·12 days agoI’m sure it was vaporized but I still think we should get MythBusters to test it with modern camera and tracking equipment.

Wholesome@reddthat.com•Would you rather receive thoughtful gifts or thoughtful words?
4·13 days agoI appreciate thoughtful acts whether that is words or gifts or just a kind gesture.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do people get progressively less happy as they age?
81·15 days agoThere isn’t a universal answer, I expect it depends a lot on your worldview and whether you got past your hangups earlier in life, and what your health, regrets and living situation are. I have anecdotal evidence both ways.
The left looks like Platonic relationship material unfortunately

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Sharks existed before trees. Imagine being scared of something older than your entire concept of furniture
22·18 days agoAnother fun tree fact I heard, the reason why coal exists was because trees existed on land for a long time before decomposers existed to digest their fibers. They just died and were buried intact. This actually caused a problem with sequestering so much CO2 that the earth went into an ice age.
Edit for clarification: decomposers did exist but they couldn’t decompose tree lignin specifically so it just stayed around.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Microsoft says Copilot is for entertainment purposes only, not serious use — firm pushing AI hard to consumers and businesses tells users not to rely on it for important advice
14·23 days agoWe normalized the idea that regulations on business that prevent them from springing us with shoddy products that harm us, or maliciously use our data to exploit us, are too onerous and anti-competitive, so let’s just let the corpos put some magic words in an EULA/TOS/Privacy Policy to allow them to caveat emptor us to death.
We could use a revitalization of the consumer rights movement from the grassroots, but it’s a real uphill battle and every year it gets harder.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Your display contains no yellow pixels - yet it displays the color yellow just fine
4·24 days agoI always thought it was crazy to wonder what the qualia of colors we can’t see but other animals can is. It’s sort of like being a cat or some other animal with limited color vision and trying to imagine what humans see. How would you prove to a cat that those colors exist?
Mostly feeling the vibes given the recent Australian report linking nicotine vapes to cancer and the anecdotal evidence I have for these strong vapes causing all sorts of negative mental outcomes or dependency for people I know who use them heavily. We still have a lot of space to learn about unintended consequences here and I’m pessimistic.
High THC cannabis vapes.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Conversations with old people would be a lot shorter if they never had any ailments.
2·26 days agoI’ve got the big 4 birthday coming very soon. I already have enough ailments to complain about but I’ll wait for now. Not enough time in the day to be bitter about that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many Lemmy users post regularly (let's say daily)?
25·28 days agoI’ve been here for a while without having ever posted yet. But I do comment and upvote.
Realistically I think if humanity decided altogether to go for the genocide ending to life on earth we’d be able to kill all life on earth. We can’t directly kill all of the bacteria but if we were dogged enough we could induce the Venus ending (we will long be dead before victory is claimed though).
