I did not say monetary value was art’s only worth. However art that hangs in a museum got there because of its value. This is true across history and across cultures
You pity me?
Would love to hear about your art background and knowledge.
I grew up around art. I am surrounded by art and artists everyday of my life. Literally
Art is work. Artists do not work for free. Just like you don’t work for free. Some work is more valuable than other work. Some art is more valuable than other art
Some art has very little artistic value, meaning it adds little to the conversation and the world of art

News@lemmy.world•Art Collector Says He Lost Warhols and Harings to L.A. Fire
12·1 year agoDo you think artists are going to produce art to be freely hung in a museum?
The reason art is valuable and worthy of being hung in a museum is because there is a market for it.
Lay people travel to the Louvre to see the Gioconda because they perceive it as valuable, important, and irreplaceable.
No market means no measure of value for art

Going to Starbucks says two things about you, I have no taste, I am too lazy to seek something better
So yeah, seeing how many people actually drink that slop, makes those of us that don’t drink that slop proud of ourselves for not being tools

Men's Liberation@lemmy.ca•We research online ‘misogynist radicalisation’. Here’s what parents of boys should know
115·1 year agoThis article is completely tone deaf.
It is actually this tone deafness that is radicalizing boys. Boys and specially Caucasian boys, are born into a world where they are told that being male is evil, being white is evil. Every other group is entitled to privileges and special programs, and protection, but not boys. For them it is actually the opposite, they have to pay reparations for the crimes of their forefathers, whoever they are
This approach unsurprisingly makes young boys feel attacked and radicalizes them just like any other group would get radicalized if under attack
The return to mysoginy is mainstream and that is because the attack on young boys is mainstream
Think about it
