Current work in progress
This episode is a behind-the-scenes look at my progress on getting ready for a product launch, including making compliance a priority, using tools like Claude and Linear to streamline project management, and tackling tasks and bug fixes in the final weeks leading up to the big day.
Hello, and welcome to week 70 of in progress. I this week I feel like I'm actually over this cough now; it's I'm keeping warm because the temperature changes seem to kind of antagonize it, but I feel a bit better. I feel better this morning, which is good because we've got a holiday coming up.
Week in Review
Last week was a good week, I think. It was a good week; I got stuff done. I'm making slow progress on compliance, ah, but we made progress. Got a nail that this week—that's my goal with my co-founder this week. I want to nail our compliance so that we're not blocked on that for launch.
I really enjoyed using Claude to help; we use linear dot app for our project management. And I really enjoy chatting to Linear or getting Claude to help me structure it rather than clicking around buttons and thinking, "It just took it." Yeah, I know I should be thinking about these things, but when there's so much going on, it's nice in some ways to outsource the thinking and go, "Yeah, this makes sense," and then because linear has an MCP, getting it Claude to just create it all which is very nice.
And then I was organizing tickets on Friday; cuz I have this one project which is called Countdown to Production, and it had loads of tickets which were probably actual projects now. I just have did I say it was? Ah, yeah, 25, no, yeah, 30 tasks that I need to get through before our launch ideally. We'll see that happens hopefully; I can bash through; I'm gonna get through like 12 this week which are all small bug things, we will see maybe more or maybe just like small things that I can really rattle through.
I didn't get a blog post out last week but I do want to get one out this week. Maybe two out this week. I was inspired by the most recent Django chat episode with Velda; might write some blog posts around Neapolitan chat with Carlton in Athens, but also Django social in Athens is happening on Tuesday night.
Django and Compliance
I'm looking; I'm looking; I'm double-checking. Oh, I also managed to get Django waffle custom models in last week which is good and one final reset of migrations this week. We've got I've got a Django not meeting with the Django simple deploy team which is working on with Django knots which is fun later today talking about prod server got Django social.
This week, I did not get the talk proposal which I'm sad about but it means I now have to talk to lightning talks to prep for so we'll see if we can get those in. I'm gonna finish off our linear organization onboarding emails; I stayed up too late to not last night. Everything else is just humming along nicely—it's really just I have this week I have two full weeks before we're due to go live, say.
I've really got a nail the last few bits before we launch that we had like done before we launch yeah. The other thing I might write about this week is the I was talking about it I think last week—the tasks or the job system that I have built in with signals and what I improved upon it, I was doing some onboarding and notifications they.
Looking Ahead
I think I thought about this last week so they started yet notifications will be off the back of these tasks but I was reminded of that yeah there's it there's a really interesting concept in the idea of giving creating tasks and everything being centered around tasks my mind is just full of that right now.
I need I'd like to write more about it and see how it plays out and the flexibility it gives you. But also might start presenting that to the user in some fashion so that they can create tasks in our system and assign them to themselves or assign them to other people—that's yeah interesting thoughts anyway.
Hopefully, maybe also some more work leads will come out this week we will see but yeah that that is my. Also have to sort out or help with char caribou I've got char the youngest one is off for a couple of days so we have a babysitter but it means I'll be slightly distracted as well which is annoying otherwise that's it.
It's a short one this week; have a good week being in progress folks. And I will probably not do one next week because I will be packing the car because we're off for a holiday festival thing then it's Easter so there might be a hiatus but oh no I'll try and do one on Tuesday, we'll see.
Might be a couple of weeks break before I'm back for a quick one before I'm off to Athens and then we're launching so it's all good. April's just gonna zing by really fast anyway have a good week and have a good Easter folks if I don't speak to you virtually since then or before then and yeah have a good week being in progress cheers folks bye bye!
