Chris Parsons began his career at Elixir Studios, contributing to titles such as Republic: The Revolution and Evil Genius. After leaving AAA development, he transitioned into web development before returning to game creation with Sol Trader in 2011.

The project evolved through multiple iterations, including alpha releases and a successful Kickstarter campaign, before launching publicly in 2016. The original version focused on procedural societies, where thousands of characters lived, interacted, and evolved independently.
