We build software that stays maintainable.
Techshift is a small UK-based development team. We build and maintain web applications with Laravel, and we take on the projects that need proper engineering, not just code.
Our story
Mathew began his career as an apprentice web developer in 2015 and has worked with Laravel ever since. Across product roles, client projects, and side builds, one thing kept standing out: the best software is not just quick to launch, it is clear, dependable, and built to keep evolving.
Before Techshift existed, Mathew and Jake had already worked together on a range of client projects. The partnership clicked early. Delivery felt smoother, communication was straightforward, and clients kept coming back when more work needed doing.
That experience shaped the thinking behind Techshift. The aim was simple: stay hands-on, keep quality high, make sensible technical decisions, and build systems that remain maintainable as they grow.
Techshift was founded in October 2023 and has grown steadily since. We have chosen to stay small on purpose, so the people doing the work stay close to the detail. That means direct communication, practical problem-solving, and accountability from start to finish.
In August 2024, we took on our biggest project to date: a multi-tenant SaaS platform with subscriptions, billing, a customer portal, admin tooling, and Stripe integration. It is still in active development today and reflects the kind of work we enjoy most: thoughtful systems with moving parts, built with care.
Alongside direct client work, we also support agencies as a trusted delivery partner. We are comfortable working under NDA, we do not pitch to your clients, and we focus on helping you deliver confidently to your own clients.
We are still a small team. We are still hands-on. And that is exactly how we like to work.

What we believe
- Stable production matters more than flashy features.
- We'll always try to bring your vision to life while maintaining standards.
- Good software solves a real problem and has a clear purpose.
- Maintainable code is a feature. It saves time and money long after launch.
Where we fit best
We're not a "brochure website" studio. Techshift is best suited to systems where the software actually does work: portals, platforms, internal tooling, integrations, and SaaS products.
If you need a marketing website, we'll usually recommend a specialist for that and focus on the system behind it.

From Mathew
"I'm not interested in rushing projects out the door. I want Techshift to be the kind of team that delivers calmly, keeps standards high, and leaves clients with systems they can actually rely on. A good working environment and good engineering go together, and both save clients time, money, and stress."

What clients say
"Thanks to Techshift for their work on our brochure, branding and the Cliffe website. The standard of service was excellent from start to finish, and the quality of the final output was exactly what we wanted. I'd happily recommend them."
"We hired Techshift for a web project and were immediately impressed by their commitment. It quickly felt like they were part of our team. They're honest, thorough, and disciplined about getting work delivered properly. They've since taken on mobile app development too, and they consistently understand what we're aiming for with minimal back-and-forth.
