Our story

In 1972, Sligos was founded in France with a bold idea: what if payment processing could be simple and reliable? Five decades later, that same spirit still drives us. Here are the key moments that shaped who we are:

2025

Back to core business. We announce the contemplated carve-out of MeTS, our digital services business. It's a pivotal moment – we're choosing to concentrate our expertise entirely on Payments, the industry we know best and love most.
2022

Thinking globally. We expand into Greece, Italy, and Australia while refocusing with the strategic disposal of TSS, our Terminal business.
2021

Growth with purpose. We launch Trust 2025 and a three-year strategic plan that embed sustainable economic growth at the heart of everything we do.
2020

A transformative leap. The acquisition of Ingenico makes us Europe's largest payment services provider. We're not just growing bigger – we're becoming a force that truly shapes the industry.
2018

Expanding across Europe. We acquire SIX Payment Services, strengthening our presence in Switzerland and Austria. Europe's payment landscape is becoming more connected, and we're leading the way.
2014

Independence. Worldline is carved out from Atos with an IPO on Euronext Paris, beginning our journey as an independent payments provider.
2004

Finding our focus. Atos Worldline is born as a dedicated subsidiary of Atos Origin. We decide to concentrate all our energy on payments – because that's where our heart truly is.
1997

Stronger together. Axime and Sligos merge to become Atos, combining expertise and expanding what's possible for our customers.
1991

Expanding our vision. Axime is created in France, focusing on electronic banking and payment processing—another building block in our payments foundation.
1973

The beginning. We win France's first ever contract for card-based banking transactions. It sounds simple now, but back then, we were pioneering something no one had done before.
