Broadcast and AoIP engineer with 15+ years of experience designing and delivering mission-critical audio and communications systems for live events. My work spans major football tournaments, global elections, and the Olympic Games - environments where failure isn't an option.
I operate at the intersection of broadcast and IT, and I hold a Cisco CCNA certification (2020). I write about the systems that keep live events on air at matt-thomas.work.
RavennaCalc - A browser-based bandwidth calculator for Ravenna/AES67 audio streams. Built to replace a clunky spreadsheet used when planning temporary WAN services for major sports events, where fibre is expensive and over-provisioning costs money. (source)
Comrex Fleet Dashboard - A lightweight Node.js dashboard for monitoring a fleet of Comrex broadcast audio codecs. Polls the Comrex Switchboard API and presents registration status, connection state, firmware version, and IP address for every unit in a single auto-refreshing view.
I publish technical posts on broadcast engineering topics including AoIP, SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, PTP, MADI, Dolby E, SIP, and network architecture. Find them at matt-thomas.work/posts.
