minus-squareInsekticus@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up6arrow-down3·2 months agoWell, all the white people in Australia are migrants or children of migrants, whether they want to accept reality or not. So if white people belong to a land their ancestors migrated to, everyone else is allowed to belong here, too.
minus-squarefizzle@quokk.aulinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4arrow-down1·2 months agoThis article asks whether migrants feel they belong, not whether other Australian’s feel that migrants belong.
minus-squareInsekticus@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·2 months agoI don’t think I implied that the migrants’ right to belong rested on whether or not other Australians feel like they belong. I’m stating that they have as much right TO belong as they wish, considering the colonisers feel like they belong.
minus-squarefizzle@quokk.aulinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·2 months agoNo worries - not trying to tell you what you said or what you meant to say. FWIW I absolutely agree with you. There’s a whole lot of “closing the gate behind you” going on, even with more recent migrants.
minus-squareInsekticus@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·2 months agoYeah all good. It never hurts to clarify my point some more anyway. And yeah, that closing the gate mentality people have just makes it harder for anyone else looking for a good live to join later on.
minus-squareDavidDoesLemmy@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1arrow-down3·2 months agoNot true, there are white people in Australia who are not migrants.
minus-squareInsekticus@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·2 months agoWould you like to elaborate on that? I think you may have missed the part where I said “migrants or children of migrants”.
minus-squareDavidDoesLemmy@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1arrow-down3·2 months agoSure, Swedish people here on holiday, for example. They haven’t migrated, but they’re in Australia as tourists.
minus-squareInsekticus@aussie.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4·2 months agoYeah, I’m clearly talking about people who live and are citizens of Australia.
