6·13 天前I feel like I haven’t really seen it discussed, though, surely there must be some socialist theory where it’s mentioned. There seems to be this dynamic where like, for most of human history, the economic bottleneck has been underproduction: there’s too much demand and not enough supply, so there’s a social pressure to intensify the work regime in order to generate a surplus for elites (this part has been written about extensively). However, there’s some point on the productivity chart, where productivity becomes high enough and it inverts, so the issue becomes that there’s too much supply, and the current elites aren’t capable of generating demand to absorb it quickly enough. Or, that is, with socially necessary demand: obviously it’s possible for each trillionaire to have multiple palaces & a dozen mega-yachts, but that level of demand is clearly not contributing to their quality of life, and becomes destabilising because it generates blowback without generating any additional loyalty within the elite.
At this point, the step to further growth is to create additional elites (which sounds possibly destabilising), or to redistribute wealth downwards.
Edit: oh well I guess, in real life, this excess ends up being used to torture people and destabilise society for shits & giggles.

Too generous, it’s more like a concept of a goal.
