  • I think so.

How high the priority should be is a debate worth having, but space has many ways to wipe out a planet. Having two planets, having a permanent space station, could go a long way to increasing survivability.

Not only that, building in a vacuum, building in zero G, even building things under great pressure, all can allow us to build new materials with brand new properties.

Also, being able to sustain a small group of people somewhere completely contained an inhospitable can be utilized on earth to feed people at home, or recycle water at home.

  • Well, first off the pool is lower because you can’t just grab some rando off the street. The whole job is protecting the hen house and you absolutely can NOT put a fox in that position. Reputation, etc:

You also can’t put someone who can be turned into a fox into the position. If you’re protecting something that could potentially be worth billions stolen, you don’t want to pay starvation wages where the instability would make the risk of betrayal seem lower.

If the person you trust now also has to move, then you also have to pay extra for that.

Every movie makes the security guard a big guy falling asleep in front of an array of monitors but that’s not the case if the thing you’re protecting is worth a LOT.

  • Yeah, if they had called it something else I would’ve checked it out. I do like the art style and the world building but…

    It ain’t Marathon.

“allegedly” you can board the alien spaceship and see the marathon enemies of old as some sort of unlockable raid thing… I saw the floating invisible alien in one of the trailers for about 3/4 of a second… but genuinely why even call it marathon?

  • Maybe it’s because I’m drowning in corporate BS, platitudes, and just all around mistrust of anybody trying to motivate me.

But I kinda would trust the guy on the left a bit more. You hate me, sure fine, but hey you’re gonna risk us all equally. Blunt but I at least appreciate the honesty.

Patton is saying exactly what you would say when you want the group you care about the least to charge in the front… You know what I mean?

  • Any time I see something like this there’s this really weird part of me that wonders how they did it.

Like, did they just have 100 decks of ICE swag and somebody went and took all the ace of spades from them and just chucked out 100 perfectly good decks of cards? Some upper echelon was like “this might be a fun thing to boost morale” three years ago and now it became a threatening calling card? Completely not what the original idea was?

Did they go the business card route and some nameless minimum wage worker looked at the pattern, didn’t see nudity or swearing, hit print and shipped them 100 threatening calling cards?

Did the guy who came up with the idea to leave these cards have to do their research, shop around, figure out how to use a demo copy of adobe, did they get their kid to do it? Did they just stumble across an old box one day and thought sick I can use these! Did they specifically ask it from their superiors who just rolled their eyes and did it without thinking?

Because I go to enough cons and people give out badge ribbons. Just stupid little things to spread the love, and I always imagine someone just in a good enough mood, putting in a little bit of effort, just to give out a free little thing to make strangers happy.

I really struggle to imagine and understand the inverse of that.
