How the Segment Controller ecosystem is built and why we did it?

New Approach to Model Railway Accessories

Imagine a complete network of model railway accessories! In addition to the moving trains, there are many accessories you can control together — sounds, lights, signals, switches, motorized cranes, and other switchable elements!

You can connect all of them into a large network where they interact with each other. Beyond centralized control, they can also react to one another. When an event occurs, something happens: a sound plays or something moves when a train arrives.
When no specific event is happening, active randomness keeps the model railway lively — a sound might play unexpectedly, a lamp might light up, or a portal crane might suddenly move.

Sounds exciting, right?

Build like LEGO – with snap-together expansion panels

Modularity and choice make your layout truly free! Instead of creating a one-size-fits-all electronic board, we let you choose what you want your SegmentController to control. The Master Panel doesn’t control anything by itself, but it’s the heart and brain of the system. You can connect one—or preferably more—expansion panels to it, and that’s when the magic begins.

Currently, you can choose from the following panels, including both input and actuator types: All panels

You can expand your setup anytime. Thanks to the system bus, the Master Panel automatically recognizes the connected modules and starts managing them.

Professional accessories with built-in microcomputer

Our primary goal is to enhance modern digital DCC model railway layouts with professional accessories that make them even more lifelike. Locomotives have been moving realistically on tracks — it’s only right to complement them with scenery, lights, and sounds that reflect the real world even better.

It’s time to move beyond the old 12–16V gadgets controlled by manual switches. With tiny mini-computers (smaller than one  cm!), you can build a fully digital world that always surprises you with something new! The future lies in automation and randomness!

Microcomputers

A browser is all you need — no mobile app required

The SegmentController can also join your Wi-Fi network, allowing you to configure everything via a web browser interface. You can adjust and fine-tune your setup later—no physical access needed. Hide the system under your layout or inside a building, as each panel is no larger than 6×6 cm. See rule 6x6x6x!

All layouts are segmentable for flexibility

We’ve observed that whether you’re building a large layout or working with modular sections, segments naturally emerge. A characteristic of model railway layouts is that accessories tend to concentrate in specific areas—this could be a station and its surroundings or a miniature industrial zone somewhere in the back. In these areas, we recommend using independent SegmentControllers.

This allows each segment to be controlled, managed, and configured separately. In the case of modular construction, they can also be easily disassembled, keeping the system flexible.

Flexibility
Wiring minimized

Intelligence built-in, wiring minimized

High complexity used to go hand in hand with extensive wiring. That’s another thing to leave behind! We’ve built the logic directly into the panels, enabling intelligent features with minimal wiring. From the start, we’ve aimed to keep wiring to a minimum.

This makes the system easier to maintain and easier to separate, and even during construction, you’ll notice how few and how short the wires actually are. Place the Segment Controller Master panels near the areas where functions are concentrated. That way, you don’t have to route everything back to a central control hub.

Fewer wires mean fewer potential issues!
