First Qualifier
Date: 12/8/18
Time: 3:20-6:00
Attendance: Nidhir, Trinity, Josephine, Kathy, Ananya, Tommy, Jonathan, Rebecca, Rohan, Afra, Shivani, Sriteja, Justin
Plans/Goals
- We hope to win at least one judged award, and get to eliminations.
What Was Accomplished
- By Qualification Match 3 we had a reliable delatch auto and reliably could latch in endgame, having a reliable 80 point solo.
- We ranked 14th out of 16th, going 1-4 overall and winning Qualification Match 3.
- Compared to last year, we were able to pass robot inspection and field inspection significantly quicker, and our judge’s interview went significantly quicker.
Notes/Additional Information
- The robot suffered disconnection issues in two out of the five qualification matches that we played. Unfortunately, those disconnects occured in the two matches with low scores (winning alliance scored around 60 points), which we could have won.
- Our latch mechanism broke in match 4, and was quickly repaired.
- A temporary disconnect cause the arm to run full power into the drivetrain, basically causing it to break its own mounting system.
Reflection/Takeaways
- Compared to our last qualifier nearly a year ago, there were several parts which were significant improvements.
- Robot Inspection and Field Inspection were passed quickly because we sized the robot ahead of time and went down the checklist, and added stickers and team numbers.
- The Judging interview, even though it was only practiced once before going in, went relatively smoothly. However, several mistakes were made during the judge’s interview. Even though we brought props to the competition, we didn’t actually bring it into the room to show the Judge’s. Also, some members while describing certain mechanisms of the robot didn’t actually point it out, leaving the judge’s somewhat confused. However, by pointing out CAD drawings from the notebook, we were able to somewhat counteract this issue.
